I am currently designing and developing Ayasdi's machine learning framework. I use geometry and topology to complement more traditional statistical techniques in data analysis and machine learning. By using both statistics and geometry we get both more insight into the problem we're solving as well as more accurate models and predictions. Geometry and topology also add unique approaches that are not available in a purely statistical framework. Topology in particular allows us to understand data problems while making fewer model assumptions about the underlying generating process - yielding more robust models.
