Pressure sensor basics knowledge
Written By Calio Huang
First, pressure sensors and transmitters generally measure the pressure of fluids (such as liquids,
gases, and melts). Pressure units commonly used are Pa, KPa, MPa, bar, Kg / cm2 and so on. Each
pressure sensor, the transmitter has a certain pressure measurement range, the maximum
pressure value can be measured as the range.
Second, the pressure sensor output signals are generally mV (millivolt) for the unit voltage signal.
The size of the signal output and supply pressure sensor power supply voltage has a direct
relationship. The output of most sensors is 1 --- 2mV / V. That is, when the measured medium
pressure reaches the maximum nominal pressure of the sensor, if the power supply to the sensor
is 1V, then the output signal is 1 --- 2mV. Similarly, if the power supply sensor is 10V, the output
signal is 10 --- 20mV.
Third, the pressure sensor output signal commonly used are: 4 --- 20mA, 0 --- 20mA, 0 --- 5V, 1 ---
5V, 0.5 --- 4.5V, 0 --- 10V, RS485, RS232 and so on. The signal is standard, the output size is only
proportional to the pressure of the measured medium. Rated voltage range, the output will not
change with the power supply changes. Commonly used inverter, PLC, control display
instruments, the signal receiving module can receive these kinds of standard signals.
Fourth, in order to feel the pressure of the medium under test, the pressure sensor, the
transmitter has a thread or flange to connect to the pipe or container.
Fifth, the range, signal, connecting thread, is to buy the pressure sensor, the transmitter must be
clear before the three elements. After a sensor is done, these three elements cannot be changed
anymore.
