2. Introduction
Christina María Aguilera is a popular
American singer and actress. She
released this album on september
9 2008.The basic genre’s that she
sings in are dance-pop,
electropop, latin pop, pop, R&B
and soul. she looked to "come up
with something new and fresh",
developing a "futuristic" era of
her career. "Keeps Gettin' Better"
is an electropop song, and was
inspired by the likes of Andy
Warhol and Goldfrap. Its lyrics
portray Aguilera as a superhero.
3. Front Cover The front cover of the album ‘ Keeps gettin
better’ by Christina Aguilera shows the
close-up of her face.Which conventionally
establishes the star image of the pop star.
As we take a closer look we notice the
arrogance in her expression. Her arched
eyebrows also shows her dominance over
others. Her heavy eye make up shows her
female side specially the pink colour
lipstick contrast with blonde hair gives her
the look of a barbie dollb which shows her
extreme girly side.Through the close-up
we can guess that she is dressed as an
astronaut. The font is more boyish and is a
common font for sports.
This all contributes to connote that this album is targetted towards boys and girls
both. Portaying Christina as a strong girl and her goal of presenting herself as a super
hero is acheived.
4. Back Cover
This is the back cover of ‘Keeps
gettin better’ in this we see the same
picture of christina with medium
close-up. Her expressions are slightly
different now which shows her
looking aside this establishes a feel
of her as looking at a competitor
whom she doesn’t consider as equal
to her in anyway. From this picture
we get to know about the attitude of
the singer where she seems to
posses the top position and wouldnt
ever settle for the second spot.
This cover also shows the sound
track names ans also the copy rights
information. Which is present in
almost all the back covers.
5. CD :1
The cd shows 1980’s design of the cd the
colours and the graphics reminds of that time
as it was conventionally used in those time.
The design of the dcd is not exactly like what
we expect to see after going through the front
cover and back cover. The graphics reminds of
those used in superhero comics.This
contributed to christina’s goal of acting like a
superhero.
It attracts the superhero comic book readers
and also the people from 1980’s as it develops
a feel of nostalgia in them.
6. CD :2
Cd 2 is quite colourful with light blue,
yellow and pink. It is quite different from
the first cd but it still reminds of old
times through the brightness of it’s
colours. How ever it supports the pop
genre of the song. It gives the feel of
energy and dance.
The cd also has the logos of the
companies on it who are involved in it’s
production, distribution, marketing and
exhibition.
It attracts the youth interested in dance-
pop.
7. Inside
Here we see ChristinaAguilera in a full
covered shirt with zebra stripes on
it. She has covered half of her face
by her shirt amphasising on her
eyes. She has heavy eye make-up
which is black and it exagerates her
eyes and the intensisty in them.
She is looking straight into the
camera which shows her
confidence but also hiding half of
her face which includes her lips.
This shows that she does not want
to reveal too much of her girly side
here she also has her hair pulled up
in a messy bun connoting the same
thing.
This could be to attract those girls who are strong and rebelious and are not very girly.
The black and white stripes of her clothes also connects to the prisoner look which
highlights the rebellious part of her nature.
8. In-lay This inlay is entirely different from all the
previous parts of the cd cover. In this
we see christina sitting on a lips
shaped sofa in red long boots and
short clothes. The red colour is in more
focus, this shows the total feminine
side of her. In which she is exposing
her body.This also supports Laura
Mulvey’s male gaze theory and
Andrew Goodwin’s theory of
voyerism.The ‘Pow!’ sign is
conventionally used for actions in a
comic but it’s use of here also
connotes a high intensity of action.
The text written at the corner is again
sports like.
The target audience are men.
