3. ACADEMIC FREEDOM DEFINED…
Freedom to teach or communicate ideas
or facts without being targeted for
repression, job loss, or imprisonment.
Freedom to teach and do research
without constraint to discover and
promulgate new ideas.

2002)
4. ACADEMIC FREEDOM, is the
freedom of teachers and students to
teach, study, and pursue knowledge
and research without unreasonable
interference or restriction from law,
institutional regulations, or public
pressure.

(American Association of University Professors)
• “Institution of higher education are conducted
for the common good and not to further
interest of either the individual teacher or the
institution as a whole. The common good
depends upon the free research for truth and
its free exposition.”
