Access to resources
All international students studying in
Victorian government schools enjoy a
range of advanced education resources.
The Victorian school system offers:
	VCE (Victorian Certificate
of Education) consisting of
subject units that provide
a tertiary pathway
	Victorian School of Languages,
offering tuition in over
40 languages
	English language tuition,
for language proficiency and
VCE studies
	Support services, for student
welfare and personal growth
	Career Resources, offering
students vocational guidance
	Academic, sporting and extra-
curricular learning activities
	VET (Vocational Education
and Training) career oriented
subject units
	AusVELS (Australian curriculum
in Victoria) prep to Year 10
Accreditation
In every Victorian government school,
students gain advantage through unique
learning environments and high
education standards. Accredited schools
participate in a rigorous quality program
to ensure exemplary education, student
support and best education practice.
To achieve and maintain accreditation,
schools demonstrate their quality
education approach through:
• Broad school community support for
international students
• Record of student achievement from
early school to Year 12
• Desire for continued improvement
across all services provided
• High levels of student engagement
and teacher satisfaction
• Quality academic, accommodation,
welfare and language support
• Students successfully transitioning to
preferred tertiary study
Once accredited, schools are involved
in a formal quality assurance system
that revisits accreditation every four
years. A system of measuring outcomes
keeps student performance levels high
and maintains supportive and engaging
learning environments.
All schools published in Right School
Right Place are accredited. Schools are
constantly achieving and renewing their
accreditation, so if your school of
interest is not listed, please contact the
International Education Division.
Study expenses
At some schools, additional costs may
be encountered for optional activities
like camps or private music lessons.
However, in general, international
students should expect to pay for:
• Tuition and subject levies
• Homestay accommodation
• Overseas student health cover
• Textbooks and stationery
• School uniforms (if applicable)
Tertiary pathways
Most international students plan
to continue their study at university.
Victoria has Australia’s highest school to
university transition rates. So, Victorian
educators are skilled and experienced in
propelling students to this goal.
VCE gives students the choice of
progression to a Victorian university
or tertiary study overseas.
Many features (educators and staff,
location, student numbers, special
programs, community) contribute to the
individual personality of a school.
Victorian government schools provide
consistently high academic standards,
but their nurturing environments are
what actually yield student success.

Location
Victoria is a diverse state.
Accredited schools support international
students right across the state. Of the
schools profiled in this guide, 90 are
located in Melbourne. The remaining 12
schools are sited in other Victorian cities.
Melbourne
Large city with a
population over
4 million
Other Victorian cities
Small to mid-sized
metropolitan
centres
Every school location has something
different to offer. So when comparing
schools, consider the benefits students
stand to gain from a particular
learning environment.
For easy reference, the location map on
page 12-13 is divided into coloured areas.
To help identify school locations, a
corresponding symbol appears in the map
index and on each school profile page.
Curriculum
A summary of VCE (Victorian Certificate
of Education) and VET (Vocational
Education and Training) subjects
appears towards the end of the guide.
From this array of course offerings,
each Victorian government school
develops its own distinctive curriculum.
This method of independent course
development allows schools to be
responsive to the needs and interests
of its community.
The dynamic study landscape created
by this approach has allowed many
schools to develop specialities within
their curriculum.
Some schools are sought after for these
specialities, that may offer students an
integrated study approach to their
preferred university course.
In making school comparisons,
consider each unique curriculum
and its alignment with the student’s
learning aspirations.
Unique features
The characteristics of each
school contribute to its positive
learning environment.
Victorian government schools are
renowned for their culture of growth
and encouragement. A range of activities
from music productions to camps,
representative opportunities or student
community service are considered vital
to student personal growth and local
community engagement.
Some schools also feature exclusive
academic opportunities. Many accredited
schools support accelerated learning
programs for high achieving students.
Other schools offer tertiary subjects
within a university extension program.
These units assist students to gain prior
learning recognition towards degree
study at a participating university.
Profiles published in this guide provide
some information to help make school
feature comparisons. Refer to individual
school websites for full details.

  • 9. 7www.study.vic.gov.au Access to resources All international students studying in Victorian government schools enjoy a range of advanced education resources. The Victorian school system offers: VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) consisting of subject units that provide a tertiary pathway Victorian School of Languages, offering tuition in over 40 languages English language tuition, for language proficiency and VCE studies Support services, for student welfare and personal growth Career Resources, offering students vocational guidance Academic, sporting and extra- curricular learning activities VET (Vocational Education and Training) career oriented subject units AusVELS (Australian curriculum in Victoria) prep to Year 10 Accreditation In every Victorian government school, students gain advantage through unique learning environments and high education standards. Accredited schools participate in a rigorous quality program to ensure exemplary education, student support and best education practice. To achieve and maintain accreditation, schools demonstrate their quality education approach through: • Broad school community support for international students • Record of student achievement from early school to Year 12 • Desire for continued improvement across all services provided • High levels of student engagement and teacher satisfaction • Quality academic, accommodation, welfare and language support • Students successfully transitioning to preferred tertiary study Once accredited, schools are involved in a formal quality assurance system that revisits accreditation every four years. A system of measuring outcomes keeps student performance levels high and maintains supportive and engaging learning environments. All schools published in Right School Right Place are accredited. Schools are constantly achieving and renewing their accreditation, so if your school of interest is not listed, please contact the International Education Division. Study expenses At some schools, additional costs may be encountered for optional activities like camps or private music lessons. However, in general, international students should expect to pay for: • Tuition and subject levies • Homestay accommodation • Overseas student health cover • Textbooks and stationery • School uniforms (if applicable) Tertiary pathways Most international students plan to continue their study at university. Victoria has Australia’s highest school to university transition rates. So, Victorian educators are skilled and experienced in propelling students to this goal. VCE gives students the choice of progression to a Victorian university or tertiary study overseas.
  • 10. Many features (educators and staff, location, student numbers, special programs, community) contribute to the individual personality of a school. Victorian government schools provide consistently high academic standards, but their nurturing environments are what actually yield student success. omparing schools 8
  • 11. 9www.study.vic.gov.au Location Victoria is a diverse state. Accredited schools support international students right across the state. Of the schools profiled in this guide, 90 are located in Melbourne. The remaining 12 schools are sited in other Victorian cities. Melbourne Large city with a population over 4 million Other Victorian cities Small to mid-sized metropolitan centres Every school location has something different to offer. So when comparing schools, consider the benefits students stand to gain from a particular learning environment. For easy reference, the location map on page 12-13 is divided into coloured areas. To help identify school locations, a corresponding symbol appears in the map index and on each school profile page. Curriculum A summary of VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) and VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects appears towards the end of the guide. From this array of course offerings, each Victorian government school develops its own distinctive curriculum. This method of independent course development allows schools to be responsive to the needs and interests of its community. The dynamic study landscape created by this approach has allowed many schools to develop specialities within their curriculum. Some schools are sought after for these specialities, that may offer students an integrated study approach to their preferred university course. In making school comparisons, consider each unique curriculum and its alignment with the student’s learning aspirations. Unique features The characteristics of each school contribute to its positive learning environment. Victorian government schools are renowned for their culture of growth and encouragement. A range of activities from music productions to camps, representative opportunities or student community service are considered vital to student personal growth and local community engagement. Some schools also feature exclusive academic opportunities. Many accredited schools support accelerated learning programs for high achieving students. Other schools offer tertiary subjects within a university extension program. These units assist students to gain prior learning recognition towards degree study at a participating university. Profiles published in this guide provide some information to help make school feature comparisons. Refer to individual school websites for full details.
