1. MEDIA STUDIES: THRILLER OPENING EVALUATION
Question Six: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?

2. Posting on a blog, presenting coursework use different software's, editing and filming have all been part of maintaining my media
blog. During the year I have developed pre-existing skills, learnt new ones and even discarded old conceptions whilst
constructing my production.
I have used a number of presentation software's to present certain work onto my blog. Programmes such as Prezi and
PowerPoint have been used to present my research and planning, improving an d perfecting my skills on these platforms. I also
branched out and tried uses as many new programmes as possible, this way I could develop my skills and also have a wider
knowledge on which programme would suit a certain aspect of my work that was to be put on my blog. As a result I discovered
programmes such as PowToon which is produced like a PowerPoint but allows automatic effects which creates the affect of
something that looks more animated rather than mechanical, much like the original PowerPoint. This allowed me to present my
work in different way and with development may become a useful accessory.
During the early stages I also developed my importation skills. For example, I was able to import media onto my blog by
embedding it, something I previously did no know. This is vital for my blog and allows me to seamlessly present YouTube videos
which was needed for my final thriller opening cut.
During the shooting process I used a number of foreign technology. I learnt how to fully understand specific settings whilst
filming on a digital camera and also relied on my new skills with equipment such as a tripod in order to get specific shots needed.
Once footage was gathered, I proceeded with editing. As I had no previous experience with the software used before the
preliminary task, I had to familiarise my self with the process. Various YouTube videos enabled me to prefect my skill. For
example, using different dissolves from shots were used until I was happy with the shots. I also changed my fonts for credits and
titles to fit the specific aesthetic. Most importantly, when the shot of the enigma in the doorway needed to be lightened in order
to see the characters better, I was able to pick a specific lighting corrector in order to alter the shot when needed. All of these
developments and changes required know how in order to produced my opening, therefore these skills were utilized and
perfected in order to use them during this process.
