THE POWER PURSE:
HOW WOMEN GENERAL COUNSEL SUPPORTING WOMEN
OUTSIDE COUNSEL MAKES GOOD BUSINESS SENSE
Although most law firms have adopted programs and policies to advance women at all ranks,
few have significantly moved the needle toward gender parity in the profession. What can change
that? “The power of the purse” — pressure from clients — is arguably the most effective tool that
can be wielded by general counsel. In-house counsel can offer a carrot (awarding business to
firms that demonstrate diversity success) or use a stick (withdrawing business from firms that
don’t take diversity seriously) to support the advancement of women. Please join us at our 5th
annual panel featuring women general counsel who will discuss why gender diversity is important
to their companies when they select outside counsel. Our distinguished panelists will help law
firms identify common mistakes that give only lip service to advancing women and explain the
methods being used in today’s new legal economy to hold firms accountable for diversity.
You will get inside advice and learn practical tips that can be applied immediately to leverage
the power women lawyers have to help one another.
