2. HEALTHCARE EDUCATION IN VIRTUAL WORLDS
• Virtual Worlds have been for a while in healthcare and medical higher education.
• In Finland Universities adopted virtual worlds as education environments first, but the final
breakthrough with virtual worlds has been .made by Universities of Applied Sciences in
recent years.
• In Second Life , there exists a lot healthcare and medical education services and
environments (http://healthcybermap.org/)
• Transferring from Second Life to the new immersive virtual worlds has been made.
RealXtend, Meshmoon , Open Sim and Open Wonderland have became popular.

3. THE USE OF VIRTUAL WORLDS AND AR IN
HEALTHCARE
• The usea of augmented reality in healthcare and medical education can be divided into three
sub-areas.
• 1. Patient education and guidance
• 2. Professional Education
• 3. Public healthcare guidance.
• In Finland, virtual worlds for healthcare education have been used by the Tampere University
of Applied Sciences the Virsu hospital, Turku University of Applied Sciences in Thrombus
education and Laurea University of Applied Sciences have Health Market in Second Life.

4. AR AND HEALTHCARE EDUCATION
• Augmentoidun reality visual displays are more advanced than the auditory (voice), tactile
(haptic), or olfactory (smell) and taste based displays that are almost unheard of.
• Tactile displays are well known and has been used in medical research, especially in
surgery and dentistry (Moog, 2013). In this case, the user can feel through the computer
what it feels like to keep such as a dental drill in hand.
• Tactile devices and applications become more familiar, and their use in education provide
new opportunities for learning experiences such as smart gloves.
• Sheffield Hallam University has been a pioneer in the reality of augmentoidun usea in
british higher education

5. CASE AURASMA AND TURKU UNIVERSITY OF
APPLIED SCIENCES HEALTHCARE
• ‘"Social skills at work ’t education session in Second Life summer school.
• 8 students, one of which is a distance learning student from abroad.
• Aurasma test in Second Life.
• Students and teachers were enthusiastic about the learning form and continuation of
education and training is planned.
