New Global Justice MA 100% Online This new degree allows students to study the urgent ethical issues of our globalising world including climate change, war, terrorism, poverty, inequality, trade, justice and human rights, all online. The course spans across 3 terms Entry criteria: • Aptitude tests, plus • English language requirements • 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each sub-section • Degree 2:1 Honours degree in relevant discipline (e.g. philosophy, politics, economics, history, social science) or 2:2 honours degree and either master’s degree at merit in a relevant discipline (e.g. philosophy, politics, economics, history, social science), or substantial relevant professional experience (with e.g. international aid agency, developing world NGO). - DP Gift March 2012: King’s College London is embarking on a £40million programme of investment in the School of Law. This ambitious initiative has been made possible by a personal gift of £20 million from Mr Dickson Poon CBE, a well-known Hong Kong-based philanthropist. His remarkably generous gift is the largest donation from an individual in the College’s history, and the largest ever to a British or European law faculty. The School will be renamed The Dickson Poon School of Law in recognition of Mr Poon. The £40 million investment strategy will establish the School of Law as a leader in the field of transnational law – thinking beyond particular national jurisdictions and seeking global solutions to the world’s legal challenges – in order to pioneer a new standard of legal education for the 21st century and translate research findings that guide legal reform, policy development and commercial practice. With its new home in Somerset House East Wing, The Dickson Poon School of Law will become a dynamic international centre for legal research, bridging the worlds of higher education, policy and business. The donation will also be used to drive a worldwide recruitment campaign for eight new Distinguished Chair positions and a further seven ‘rising stars’, in order to establish the School as an unrivalled centre for legal research. Up to 75 students a year will benefit from an Ivy League-style scholarship programme, of which 15 places will be reserved for students currently resident in Hong Kong and mainland China. Yeoh Gift 05/2013: King’s College London has received a donation of £7 million to set up a new research-based Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law (the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for PPL). The gift, from the family of Malaysian alumnus Mark Yeoh, will further build King’s reputation as a dynamic international centre for legal teaching and research in the heart of London. The donation is the largest from a Malaysian family to any UK university and will provide for three new academic posts (a Chair and two Lectureships) and 16 Yeoh Tiong Lay LLM scholarships (tution and £10000 stipend per). Mark Yeoh graduated from King’s College London with an LLB (Hons) in 1987. He is currently Director of Wessex Water Ltd, which is owned by the Yeoh family’s YTL Corporation – one of Malaysia's largest companies with interests in construction, utilities, hotels, property development and technology. Other Scholarships Bosco Tso and Emily Ng Scholarship Programme: The generous gift, from alumnus Mr Bosco Tso, has been established to support students who wish to study law at King’s. The winner will be selected on the basis of a personal statement as well as demonstrable financial need. Applicants must have a confirmed place to study the one year LLM Law programme at King’s in September 2014. The scholarship is open to all applicants and is worth £22,500. Each scholarship will cover full tuition fees plus a living allowance. For 2014-15 one scholarship will be available. The King's Nigerian Law Scholars Fund is a fund to help students from Nigeria to undertake the one year LLM Law programme at King’s. The scholarships are worth £25,000 and are intended to help towards the cost of your tuition fees for the year, as well as living costs whilst you are studying.

- The Dickson Poon School of Law In December 2009, King’s College London signed an agreement with the Somerset House trust to acquire the East Wing of Somerset House, one of London's most beautiful and iconic buildings. From the moment it opened its doors to students in 1831, King's College set its sights on acquiring the neighbouring East Wing - an ambition that has lasted 180 years. The relationship between the College and the Crown offices that occupied the East Wing were sometimes difficult. Moved in January 2012. Queen’s visit 29 February 2012. The site was once a Saxon port Law was first taught here more than 600 years ago Somerset House was home to the future Elizabeth I A famous peace treaty between England and Spain - The Treaty of London – was signed at Somerset House in 1604 Oliver Cromwell lay in state here following his death in 1658 The world's first taxi rank was located in the street outside The Royal Society was based here from 1780 to 1857 and was also home to the Royal Academy of Arts, the Geological Society and the Society of Antiquaries The structure of DNA was discovered beneath the College car park next to the East Wing King's has sought many times to acquire the East Wing – the last major campaign took place in the early 1970s A 700-year old legal tradition From at least 1294, court inquisitions and assizes were heard in the open air at the ancient stone cross that was located opposite the modern entrance to Somerset House. The area's legal connections were cemented with the building of the Inn of Chancery called the Strand Inn on the site of the College's car park and the East Wing. The Inns of Chancery trained legal professionals including clerks, solicitors and barristers alongside the larger and more famous Inns of Court. They also served as dining clubs and lodgings for lawyers. The earliest evidence for the Strand Inn comes from the reign of Henry V (1413-1422), though like the other Inns of Chancery, it was probably much older. The Inn was destroyed when the Protector Somerset built his new palace in the 1540s. Legal education resumed when King's College opened its doors in 1831 and the East Wing is now the new home to The Dickson Poon School of Law.

- The law school offers a variety of events and lectures all year round which our students have full access to. These events range special guest speakers that are invited in to give talks to our students and staff, research event series from our academics, visiting lectures or special guests and high profile speaking events. The law school also put on end of year balls, Christmas winter parties for our students as well other special events such as the legal walk which happens every year to raise money for legal aid.

- The law school has several events hosted via our careers department for law. As part of legal week a multitude of talks are given from members of well known law practices as well as a chance for students to network with law firms and find out more about careers and internships.
- The new degree is built on the model of the successful face-to-face MA in Global Ethics & Human Values. Using new technology the online degree will bring first-rate instruction to bright university graduates worldwide, training them to think rigorously about global issues such as war, human rights, inequality and climate change. Students will be able to: view online lectures from a world-leading team of academics. They will interact in online seminars and discussion forums led by Interactive Instructors. They will interact with each other across a range of online modalities, from news groups to chat rooms. The course will encourage students actively to share their experiences and views across borders, so giving them international sensitivities and helping them to build international networks that can further their future careers. Audience: The programme is designed for those who have studied philosophy, politics, economics, history or social science; for those in government, an international aid agency or an NGO; for those involved in corporate social responsibility in the commercial sector; and for those with other relevant experience.
