 compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of electromagnetic waves
 Describe an electromagnetic wave.
 Show the relationship among the speed of the wave, frequency, and it’s
wavelength
 Identify the different types of electromagnetic wave
 Give the characteristics of the electromagnetic waves as compared with visible
lights
Hey, brother! Will you
please help me and my
friends to evolve fast?
Sure! But you
have to explore
first the concept
of EM Waves!
Accelerating electrons produce electromagnetic waves. These waves are a
combination of electric and magnetic fields. A changing magnetic field produces
an electric field and a changing electric field produces a magnetic field. Both the
electric field and the magnetic field oscillate perpendicular to each other and to
the direction of the propagating wave.
All electromagnetic waves can travel
through a medium but unlike other types
of waves, they can also travel in vacuum.
They travel in vacuum at a speed of
3x108
m/s and denoted as c, the speed
of light. The wave speed, frequency, and
wavelength are related by the following
equation:
V = f
Where: v is the wave speed = c = 3 x 108
m/s
is the wavelength (in meters)
f is the frequency (in Hertz)
Here are some
notes for you!
Good luck in your
journey!
Help SQUIRTLE to become stronger and achieve Mega Evolution to
become BLASTOISE by identifying whether the statements on some
staircases is TRUE or FALSE.
Electromagnetic waves can also
transfer energy in a vacuum.
TRUE
FALSE
Begin here...
Wertortle Stage
Blastoise Stage
A wave is a disturbance that
transfers energy.
TRUE
FALSE
The electric field and the
magnetic field oscillate parallel
to each other
TRUE

As wavelength decreases, the
frequency of wave also decreases
TRUE

Most EM Waves are invisible and
undetectable.
TRUE
FALSE
Wave speed can be
calculated from the
frequency (f) and
wavelength ( λ) using
the formula:
v = λf
where : v—wave speed
= 3 x 108
m /s
λ—wavelength (in
meters)
f—frequency (in Hz)
PICHU requires 10 megavolts to transform fully into RAICHU. Help
him transform by solving the two problems below. The first
question was already solved as an example.
Example:
What is the frequency of radio waves with
wavelength of 20 m?
Given: v = c = 3 x 108 m/s v = c = λf
λ = 20 m f = c/λ
f = ? = 3 x 108 m/s
20 m
f = 1.5 x 107 Hz
Help me
solve these
problems!
What is the frequency of
light waves with
wavelength of 5 x 10-7 m?
What is the
wavelength of ultraviolet
ray if it’s frequency is
4 x 1016 Hz?
Analyze the figure below that summarizes the characteristics of
different EM waves and help CHARMANDER to evolve by doing the
activity on the next page.
KEEP THE FIRE BURNING by helping CHARMANDER to arrange the EM waves in correct order in
terms of increasing WAVELENGTH and decreasing FREQUENCY. A successful task will make him
evolve into CHARIZARD.
Be careful Bro! A mistake
can put out the fire
because it splashes water.

all the statements correctly.
1. Electromagnetic wave is considered as a
longitudinal wave.
2. The longer the wavelength
of the wave, the higher it’s
frequency.
3. Gamma rays have the highest
frequency among all EM waves.
4. The wavelength of UV rays is
as small as a water molecule.

Based on your
understanding, draw/
paint your own version
of EM Spectrum.
Showcase your talent in expressing what you had learned by
doing one of the tasks below.
Electromagnetic waves are transverse
waves that can propagate with or without a
medium.
All EM waves can travel as fast as
3 x 108 m/s in a vacuum. This is the same with
the speed of light, c.
The longer the wavelength of a wave, the
lower its’ frequency; and the shorter the
wavelength of a wave, the higher its’ frequency.
Electromagnetic Spectrum is a
continuum of different EM waves that are
arranged based on frequency and wavelength.
EM Spectrum consists of radio wave,
microwave, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet
ray, x-ray, and gamma ray.

SIM about EM Waves

  • 1. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION REGION III DIVISION OF ZAMBALES SUBIC NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ANNEX –V ILWAS HIGH SCHOOL S.Y. 2016—2017
  • 2.  compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of electromagnetic waves  Describe an electromagnetic wave.  Show the relationship among the speed of the wave, frequency, and it’s wavelength  Identify the different types of electromagnetic wave  Give the characteristics of the electromagnetic waves as compared with visible lights Hey, brother! Will you please help me and my friends to evolve fast? Sure! But you have to explore first the concept of EM Waves!
  • 3. Accelerating electrons produce electromagnetic waves. These waves are a combination of electric and magnetic fields. A changing magnetic field produces an electric field and a changing electric field produces a magnetic field. Both the electric field and the magnetic field oscillate perpendicular to each other and to the direction of the propagating wave. All electromagnetic waves can travel through a medium but unlike other types of waves, they can also travel in vacuum. They travel in vacuum at a speed of 3x108 m/s and denoted as c, the speed of light. The wave speed, frequency, and wavelength are related by the following equation: V = f Where: v is the wave speed = c = 3 x 108 m/s is the wavelength (in meters) f is the frequency (in Hertz) Here are some notes for you! Good luck in your journey!
  • 4. Help SQUIRTLE to become stronger and achieve Mega Evolution to become BLASTOISE by identifying whether the statements on some staircases is TRUE or FALSE. Electromagnetic waves can also transfer energy in a vacuum. TRUE FALSE Begin here... Wertortle Stage Blastoise Stage A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy. TRUE FALSE The electric field and the magnetic field oscillate parallel to each other TRUE FALSE As wavelength decreases, the frequency of wave also decreases TRUE FALSE Most EM Waves are invisible and undetectable. TRUE FALSE
  • 5. Wave speed can be calculated from the frequency (f) and wavelength ( λ) using the formula: v = λf where : v—wave speed = 3 x 108 m /s λ—wavelength (in meters) f—frequency (in Hz) PICHU requires 10 megavolts to transform fully into RAICHU. Help him transform by solving the two problems below. The first question was already solved as an example. Example: What is the frequency of radio waves with wavelength of 20 m? Given: v = c = 3 x 108 m/s v = c = λf λ = 20 m f = c/λ f = ? = 3 x 108 m/s 20 m f = 1.5 x 107 Hz Help me solve these problems! What is the frequency of light waves with wavelength of 5 x 10-7 m? What is the wavelength of ultraviolet ray if it’s frequency is 4 x 1016 Hz?
  • 6. Analyze the figure below that summarizes the characteristics of different EM waves and help CHARMANDER to evolve by doing the activity on the next page.
  • 7. KEEP THE FIRE BURNING by helping CHARMANDER to arrange the EM waves in correct order in terms of increasing WAVELENGTH and decreasing FREQUENCY. A successful task will make him evolve into CHARIZARD. Be careful Bro! A mistake can put out the fire because it splashes water.

You can win over his pocket monsters by answering all the statements correctly. 1. Electromagnetic wave is considered as a longitudinal wave. 2. The longer the wavelength of the wave, the higher it’s frequency. 3. Gamma rays have the highest frequency among all EM waves. 4. The wavelength of UV rays is as small as a water molecule. 5. EM waves do not require a medium to propagate. 85 XP 120 XP 215 XP 347 XP 500 XP
  • 11. Compose a song that will cover the characteristics of an EM wave and its’ different types based on varying frequencies and wavelengths. Complete the ACROSTIC below to summarize the properties and characteristics of EM waves and its’ types. P— O— K— E— M— O— N— Based on your understanding, draw/ paint your own version of EM Spectrum. Showcase your talent in expressing what you had learned by doing one of the tasks below.
  • 12. Electromagnetic waves are transverse waves that can propagate with or without a medium. All EM waves can travel as fast as 3 x 108 m/s in a vacuum. This is the same with the speed of light, c. The longer the wavelength of a wave, the lower its’ frequency; and the shorter the wavelength of a wave, the higher its’ frequency. Electromagnetic Spectrum is a continuum of different EM waves that are arranged based on frequency and wavelength. EM Spectrum consists of radio wave, microwave, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet ray, x-ray, and gamma ray. Physics.
