2. EXPOSITION
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

cholera attack, Brirish colonialism, the

3. CONFLICT
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
- Mary is sent to Misselthwaite, having
to adapt with a brand new way of life
- She is interested in the secret garden
but is warned earlier by Medlock not
to go wandering and poking about
- Her curiousity about the cries is
increasing but Medlock and Martha
pretend to not knowing anything
- Scout is not interested in school but
Atticus confronts her by making a deal
- Atticus is going to defend a black
accused of raping a white woman but
the public is against him
- Atticus children are being the target
for the society to show their protest
4. RISING ACTION
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
- Mary finds the key of the secret
garden (chapter 7) and manages to
get into the secret garden (chapter 8)
- Mary finds the source of the cries
which is Colin (chapter 13) and
establishes a friendship
- Mary and Dickon work on the garden
while Mary learns more about Colin
and his illness
- Scout is explained by Atticus about
being a nigger-lover and defending a
black despite the protest from the
society
- Scout and Jem attend the trial of
Tom Robinson secretly in which
Atticus reveals obviously that Tom is
not guilty
5. CLIMAX
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
- Mr. Craven comes home after
receiving a letter from Medlock
- Mr. Craven finds Colin in the garden
and finds out that it is the garden,
Mary, Dickon and the magic which
change his condition (chapter 27)
- The jury convicts Tom of raping
Mayella Ewell
- Atticus and Jem feel the great
frustration for the court’s decision
(chapter 22)
6. FALLING ACTION
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
- Bob Ewell threatens to kill Atticus
(chapter 23) and this has frightened
Jem and Scout
- Tom is shot dead while trying to
escape from jail
- Bob harasses Helen Robinson, then
he attacks Jem and Scout
7. RESOLUTION
THE SECRET GARDEN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
- Jem and Scout are saved by Boo
Radley. Jem’s arm is injured
- Mr. Tate tells Atticus that Bob Ewell
falls on his knife and killed himself
(chapter 30)
- Scout learns that Boo has given the
Finches their lives but they give him
nothing
