To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great pleasure that I write a letter of recommendation for Angus
Hardy-Francis. Angus was a student in my advanced German language and
culture course (GMST 301: Intercultural Explorations) during the fall semester 2013
at the University of Victoria. He ranked among the top 25% in this course
receiving an A.
As GMST 301 was offered to native speakers as well as second-language
learners, both sets of students had to fulfill their own specific course requirements.
Native German speakers such as Angus were asked to independently mentor
their fellow students while leading, among other activities, classroom discussions.
I was delighted to observe that Angus was an engaged team member who
successfully facilitated group talks.
As part of the course, students could opt to complete a three-week
Sprachpraktikum (language internship) at the Victoria German School. The
teachers who supervised Angus during his internship were extremely
complimentary of both his attitude and his performance (they would be all
eager to see him return in the near future).
Even though Angus had a full academic schedule, he co-volunteered to run
the weekly German Conversation Café. Reading his weekly reports, I could
clearly see that he was deeply committed to making the German Conversation
Café a lively learning experience for all the participants (regardless their diverse
cultural and linguistic proficiency backgrounds). It came thus as no surprise that
our conversation café was prominently featured in the student-ran newspaper
The Martlet.

2. On a personal note, Angus Hardy-Francis has a very pleasant and polite
demeanor; he also has an excellent sense of humour. I would highly recommend
him for any internship and/or employment opportunities that require a strong
team spirit and advanced communication skills.
