LUXURY BRANDS 
Luxury brands are in a position of 
power over consumers aspirations 
and behaviour. They are in power over 
how long consumers use their product 
such as the creation of trends. 
Luxury consumers want the brands to 
reflect their own concerns and 
aspirations for a better world. 
WIth the expansion of luxury brand 
hitting the very rich and the very poor, 
places like Beijing, China have 
banned the use of billboards for luxury 
brands therefore they have to upkeep 
their credibility through the ability to 
generate well being in all sectors they 
come in contact with such as their 
production, use reuse and their 
disposal. 
Many corporations have voluntarily 
improved their social and 
environmental performance to 
become more sustainable. Publishing 
annual reports detailing their social 
and environmental impact. They are 
complying with national law but also 
aspiring to meet international 
standards and expectations of society.
Fashion in relation to the environment 
Fashion and it’s fast pace routine of having 
multiple shows every year in a variety of cities has 
a massive impact on the environment. 
The same people flying from Paris, Milan, New 
York and London within a matter of a weeks, also 
taking in consideration transport within these cities. 
This begs the question whether it is worth it? 
On the other hand many designers have resorted 
to displaying their collections in presentations or 
online, reducing their carbon footprint thoroughly.
Quick trends that 
become obsolete 
within a matter of 
weeks are making 
an impact on the 
throw away culture 
that we have 
created. 
With a more democratic fashion industry 
people feel entitled to luxury fashion 
therefore its fast fashions job to emulate their 
designs each season. This is possible 
through reduction of material quality and 
simplification of embellishment, pattern and 
structure. 
Globalization has in turn encouraged 
companies to go across the globe to 
manufacture their product for a 
cheaper price to therefore expand 
their profits. A constant back and 
forth of products. Primark and 
Topshop are two of the many who 
take part in this whereas fast fashion 
companies like Zara have their 
garments manufactured in countries 
such as Spain and Portugal lessening 
their carbon footprint and becoming 
more sustainable.
HOWEVER the internet has proved in becoming 
a great part of lessening our carbon footprint and 
the use of raw materials. We are now able to 
transact information without the need of paper. 
People are able to experience more on the 
internet allowing them achieve the same goals 
completely on a virtual / digital platform.
