Is it a CUV, an SUV or an MPV?
The folks at Kia shy away from calling it a minivan.
Minivans are the nerdy siblings of the auto world.
Not particularly good looking and often awkward,
they are nonetheless smart and dependable, yet no
one really wants to be seen with them. Well, Kia has
changed that and the 2015 Sedona is one hot nerd!
Worth that look
There’s no doubt that Kia will rock the minivan
world. Okay, admittedly it’s a very small world,
but the new Sedona brings a fresh take on this
family-oriented four wheeler, with an exceptionally
smooth ride, a lavishly appointed interior, and great
value. It’s sleek, aerodynamic new lines give it a
streamlined, sporty appearance.
New Look New Appeal
It is a minivan at heart, with two sliding rear doors,
available seating for up to eight occupants, and
cloth seats that are reportedly stain resistant.
There’s also a Smart Power lift gate that opens
automatically when the key fob is sensed for more
than three seconds, and can be programmed to
rise to a specific height to accommodate drivers of
different heights. The engine is silky smooth and
the transmission shifts gears almost imperceptibly.
Steering effort is light, and suspension compliance is
set on the plush side.
Spacious interior
Inside you’ll find a wraparound cockpit with a large
center console. Kia avoided placing the gear selector
on the dashboard like its competitors, which lends
to the non-sedan-like feel of those minivans. It is
located at the center console, where you’d naturally
reach for it in a car. The interior is spacious for all
passengers, and only the tallest passengers will
find headroom tight in the third row, though there’s
ample legroom throughout the Sedona. The top-
of-the-line SXL Plus comes with chrome 19-inch
wheels (17- and 18-inch wheels are also available
depending on the trim) and individual reclining
captain’s chairs in the second row. These seats are
adjustable fore and aft, and side to side, and have
extendable leg rests and headrests. You will not find
more comfortable seats in the executive cabin of an
airplane.
Safety
Standard safety features include dual front and
dual side airbags, and curtain airbags go back to
the third-row seats. There’s also an impact sensing
door unlock feature and hill assist. Available driver
assists include blind-spot mirrors, rear parking
sensors, rear view camera, lane departure warning,
front collision warning and a 360-degree camera.
Best Value
With seven models to choose from, the Sedona is
competitively priced; it has the lowest starting price,
and aside from the Grand Caravan, has the lowest
price for its top-of-the-line model. But great value
isn’t everything, and if you have some reservations
about buying a minivan and are leaning towards an
SUV or CUV as a family vehicle, the Sedona might
just change your mind.

Georgia, you’ll quickly realize that there’s a lot more than great
cars being built here. What’s sprung up over the past few years
is a rebirth of sorts. Thanks to the vision and can-do attitude
of folks here in West Point, Georgia, a community is flourishing
and a classic American success story is in the making.
Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG) is the first
manufacturing site in North America for Kia Motors
Corporation based in Seoul, Korea. With an annual capacity of
360,000 units, KMMG is located on 2,200 acres in West Point,
Georgia, and began mass production on Nov. 16, 2009. KMMG
is home to the Sorento CUV and the Optima mid-size sedan,
two of the brand’s top selling models in the U.S.
Since the start of hiring for production team members in 2008,
KMMG’s presence in West Point is responsible for the creation
of more than 14,000 jobs in the region. KMMG currently
employs more than 3,000 team members and operates three
shifts of production. Approximately 7,000 jobs have been
created by Georgia-based suppliers and an additional 4,000
positions have resulted from new plant startups and added
shifts from suppliers in Alabama.

The Soul’s funky, squared-off shape won’t be
mistaken for anything else, and standing out is
cool. From a styling perspective, the 2015 Kia Soul
is clearly a notch above the competition. The Soul’s
boxy design enables it to age very gracefully. At
the same time, its collection of useful features and
its interior versatility at a very affordable price add

goodies include a multi-mode steering system, an
iPod interface with a 6 speaker audio system, cruise

Roomy Cabin
The Soul may look small on the outside, the interior
is remarkably spacious. Everyone in the crew will
have enough room to kick back and relax. When the
rear seats are folded down, the hatchback offers a
whopping 61 cubic feet of cargo space. This means
that the Soul can easily transform from a family
cruiser into a capable hauler.
Under the Hood
The standard drivetrain on the base model 2015
Kia Soul includes a 1.6-liter, inline 4-cylinder
engine that produces 130 horsepower and 118
lb.-ft. of torque. It works with a 6-speed manual
transmission; optional is an electronically controlled
6-speed automatic with overdrive and front-wheel
drive.

The EPA fuel-economy ratings for the base 2015
Kia Soul with FWD are 24 mpg city/30 mpg highway.
