4. FAGUS FACTORY
o The Fagus Factory is a shoe last factory in Alfred in Germany.
o The building was originally designed by Edward Werner in 1913.
o The outer facades were added by Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer in
1925.
o This was a new invention of architecture done by Walter Gropius.
o The building had a rectangular plan and steel framework.

6. FAGUS FACTORY
o This was a structure made up of brick columns, steel beams, concrete
floor slabs and stairways.
o Glass curtain wall was used for the very first time.
o Slender pillars were used behind the façade so as to realize the
curtain character of glass.
o Plane surfaces.
o The glass and wall were joint cleanly.
o It was a steel framed structure.
o New building materials were used in this building.

8. FAGUS FACTORY
o Black bricks were used at the bottom and yellow bricks were used at
top.
o This was done to create optical etherealization.
o Greater horizontal elements are provided in the building.
o The floor-to-ceiling glass windows were the main features of this
building.
o The Fagus factory was included in UNESCO world heritage in 2011.
