9. WHENTOWASH HANDS?
Before and after eating
After using toilet
After playing or coming from outside
Any other time when the hands are soiled
Students must wash their hands:
10. Activity: GLITTER GAME
STEP 1
Put some glitter on the
hands of children
STEP 2
Direct them to rub their
hands & then shake
hands with their friends
STEP 3
Ask them to observe
how upon shaking hands
the glitter gets
transferred from one
hand to other
Aim: To show how germs spread to everything you
touch
11. GLITTER GAME (CONTD.)
STEP
4
• Talk to the students about how the glitter sticks to everything they touch. Tell them
that germs are the same, once they get on your hands they then spread to
everything you touch.
STEP
5
• Now tell the children that to remove germs from their hands, they need to wash
them. Go to the sink and help them wash hands with only water. DO NOT USE
SOAP YET.
• When they have finished, discuss how there is still a lot of glitter on their hands and
why (because water alone is not enough to get germs off the hands, we also need
to use soap).
STEP
7
• Talk about how soap helps water wash the germs away and that’s why, it’s
important to use soap every time you wash your hands.

14. USAGE OFWASH INFRASTRUCTURE
Why is it important?
• All our schools, houses, as well as toilets should be clean and well
maintained.
• If the surroundings where we play, work, study are clean, it will help
us stay healthy
• First of all its a human right to have a clean toilet for our personal
hygiene and with the right comes the responsibility.
• If the toilet is not clean, it can cause various problems like skin
diseases & health issues.
15. USAGE OFWASH INFRASTRUCTURE (CONTD.)
How to keep it clean?
Direction for teachers
• To avoid the smell make sure that phenyl tablets are kept in the toilets.
• Ensure that the sweeper regularly cleans the toilets with water & surf
• Encourage students to keep these facilities clean
• Form student committees to manage this
