2. Making changes;
ideas from my focus group
â– Image one was my original planned and completed advertisement page. I
put this forward to my focus group in order to find out their collective
opinion, I found that common suggestions for improvements came up such
as text, being plane and not capturing the advert well enough. They also
didn’t believe it was true nature of the adverts as what is seen in the
magazines. They believed it was typical of watch adverts were double page
spreads and after research in this I found it to be true.
â– Based on this I came back to my page and redesigned it however changing
the advert to use a different type of brand which was believed to
have thought to have been more suited to my target audience as stated by a
group of individuals in my focus group. Image two was created a brighter
vibe and gave me a chance to be able to place the audience in a failure
setting to them helping them to connect with the magazine.
3. Further key changes
â– Here I decided to put my billboard design to my focus group. Firstly to look
at the layout regarding the different platforms available. As well as the
overall impact of the product. Image one was my original production,
followed by image two. Both were presented to the group simultaneously.
â– Comments included:
â– "The magazine on image one gives instant recognition but the image on the
background has been taken a lot by such a large picture"
â– Image two looks farily plane and the two deceives on the bottom hand side
of the page don’t appeal to me as I would rather have a paper copy to look at
to recognize the magazine'
â– Due to this I decided that it would be against the hegemonic norm of the
target audience as an older generation aren't always reading online to not
have a traditional paper magazine on the billboard showing to give the
audience brand recognition and gives good advertisement.
4. Indervidual comments
â– Jake Roe:
– "The text on your front over image is difficult to read as the plain white on the light blue sky simply juts doesn’t show up
very much. If the colour can be changed or the position of the text can be relocated this may help. "
â– After reviving this information from Jake I had a little pa around with the text to try and change the colour and the location
of the text however the location wasn’t able to be changed as it didn’t look right in any other position and I wanted to try
and keep in my colour scheme still so I tried placing a drop shadow on the text to see if this would make a difference and
took it back to Jake. He said it made vast improvements as it just gave a slight differentiation making it a much easy read.
â– Alex turner:
â– "The problem I found with your advertisement page was the layout. I found that the page was too cramped and it took
away the advertisement of the actual product. If it was to become more spread out and more specific to what was being
advertised it would look great"
â– In order to help Alex the advert was converted onto a double page spread to give me more space but still enabled me to
have all of the key features on the page.To help make the product I was advertising clearer a black and white effect was
added to the image and then wherever the product or brand logo was shown it was shown in colour to make it stand out.
5. Contents page feed back
â– Lucia Hoyle:
â– "I believe the amount of different styles of text that have been used takes
away some of the uniformity of the page. There looks like you are trying too
much to make the page look busier."
â– The font changes were reduced to a different type for the titles and then for
the main bulk of the text. Each title and block of text has their own font,
each being a san-serif to connect with the audience still but more uniformity
has been made.
â– Amber stagg:
â– The only thing I can think to change is the way that you portray the page
number on the image as I feel it doesn’t stand out enough to people
â– To solve this issue the use of a drop shadow was used once again and made it
'pop' off the page which braught more attention to the number.
6. Ancillary tasks feedback
■The website doesn’t really appeal to me because I am unsure on the opening page.
However the billboard would appeal to me as it is simplistic and clearly shows what
it is advertising.
â– This feedback shows me that my billboard is effective in attainting the attention of
my audience and the promoting of my product which is the sole purpose which
shows it is a success. ( see for website on next comment)
â– I feel like the opening page onto the website should clearly show what the site is
about. To me, the image at present looks like more of a photography site, and so ,
may mislead people. The billboard being colorful grabs my attention especially
with the contrasting white text.
■As a lot of my audience feedback told me, my website wasn’t very popular and
needed dramatic change to make improvements to appeal to the audience more.
This lead me to changing my website to show the front cover of the image straight
away to show them exactly what it was about and give brand recognition
immediately.
