In a meeting I had a few months ago with one of the best quality content producer in Israel, I heard the story of a very frustrated fellow.
This gentleman told me all about the hard work he does, and the money he spends to produce great content, and after all the hard work, he can only sell it
to two media providers here in Israel, which, in negotiations, under pays him.
His biggest frustration was on a specific series, which was a huge hit in Israel. Millions of views, in their Linear TV channels and in their VOD libraries - and
he only saw pennies from it.
The absurd, from his point of view, is that he actually lost from the whole production, while the media provider who broadcasted it, gained a lot of money.

There is a dependency-love-hate relationship between the content owners, and the content providers. This relationship profile, is global.
Content owners know, that they cannot publish their content without the content provider, but understands that the content providers are a broker which
share too much of their potential profits.

Last May, I was in Burbank, California, and I sat with a talented executive from Warner Bros.
I asked him what he thinks about Apple’s iTunes as the new media providing system, and answered me with a lot of anger.
He told me, that technology players, quickly get into their ring, and make a lot of money from it, instead of them doing it by themselves.

In both cases, when I asked why did they not sell/rent the content on the web, the answer was that the internet is something they do not know well
enough, and that they thought about it for a long time, but didn’t do anything about it yet.
Both the small content owner in Israel and Warner, lacked the will for an expensive integration project, and a marketing strategy (they way to get into the
viewers eyeballs).
