Duties: Constant monitoring of patient status in cardiac ICU as well as workon infection control
measures. Our cardiac ICU unit is a 16 bed ICU and 12 Subintendive care unit incorporating post
cardiac open heart surgical patients (1500 patients annually) as well as patients with chronic heart
failure, post myocardialinfarction and post coronary artery stenting in all of Tuscany. As an
infection controlfacilitator,I observe handwashing forthe Cardio Thoracic Department, gather
data per statistical analisi for infections and encourage and monitor colleagues in good healthcare
practices such as handwashing, use of the Central Venous lines, dressing the Central Veonous lines
and urinary catheter care. I assist in preparing forinsertion of Pigtail and Thoracic drainage tubes,
Central Venous lines, arterial lines, Intraaortic Balloon Pumps and ExtraCorporal Machine
Oxygenation. I assist the anesthesiologists in creating tracheostomies and assist the patient with
tracheostomy care. As a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, I manage the infusion pumps and monitor
intake and output hourly,contant monitoring of the telemetry and monitor ventilation . I workon
prevention of decubitus for every one of my patients.
Spread over 74 hectares and employing 5,800 professionals, the hospital of Careggi is the largest
healthcare facility in central Italy. Careggi prides itself in patient care and assuring patient safety. It
is noted for it's high specializzation formany illnesses. It is a national referral center for patients
with complex cardio vascular problems and is a level 1 Trauma Center.

site and right side. We confirmed any existing allergies and any problems that couldincur during
the operation such as ensuring the availability of blood and that the proper devices were available
and the machines were working properly. We position the patient properly on the operating room
table foreach appropriate surgery. We assist the scrub nurse during the operation and assist the
patient and anesthesiologist in anestesizing the patient and are at the side of the patient when
waking up.
