How I have used digital
technologies in the
development of my film?
EVALUATION TASK 6
Introduction
 Over the past 6 months, my group and I have used may different types of digital
technology enabling us to develop as filmmakers.
YouTube
 We used YouTube to help us when we
were researching into thriller conventions.
 We did this by looking at the different
types of sub-genres and how they used the
camera, sound, editing and mise-en-scene
to portray the tone of the film.
Sweded film
 We created a sweded film using iPhones as a way to familiarise ourselves with
camera angles and how they send a message as well as the script.
 Throughout the making of our sweded film, which include planning, filming and
editing, we have picked up skills that we can use later on in our opening sequence.
 Examples of these skills are: how to film from different angles, how to edit
effectively and how to act in front of the camera
phones
 By using our phones we managed to conduct research into
our target audience in many ways:
 We would present presentations to the class and then film
them giving us helpful feedback that we can use to improve
our film.
 We would use our phones to record the feedback to be used
at a later date
camera
 When filming our opening sequence, we used a
Canon XF 305 camera.
 With this camera, we were able to film the
characters in different camera shots to show their
reactions and actions when they are hearing the
news of the earthquake.
 We did this by filming each scene many times
with a different camera shot each time so we can
look back at them and see which one we felt
portrayed the mood correctly.
IMovie
 We decided to use iMovie to edit the
opening sequence as we feel most
comfortable using that due to our experience
using the software.
 Overall we spent over a month editing our
film during school hours and at each of our
houses in our spare time.
 We had to look at every single shot that we
had so we could find the right shot to put in
the right sequence to make our film as good
as possible.
How we inserted the titles into our film
 We decided to use Final Cut Pro to add
the titles on to our film.
 We spent some time looking through a
multitude of titles so we could find the
ones that we liked.
 After selecting the titles, we had to think
about what they wanted to say. We did
this by creating two production
companies called ‘Jose Films’ and
‘Gadgeguez Productions’
How we inserted sound and special effects
into our film
 We used Final Cut Pro to pick the song that we used
at the beginning of the sequence when the titles are
showing and when the seismologist is introduced.
 We wanted to use something relaxing and upbeat to
suggest that the seismologist expects it to be a
normal day at the office.
 We then decided to add suspenseful music when the
seismologist is at his desk before the earthquake is
seen so we can build up the moment and get the
audience on the edge of their seats. We also added
an alarm using Final Cut Pro to make it sound like it
was coming out of the computer.
