5. Editorial Cartoons
 An editorial cartoon is to give a point of view. This can be an opinion
about something which is occurring in the news. The cartoon can be
a picture, words or both. The cartoonists use a form of art called
caricatures. These cartoons appear to have exaggerated features
eg. noses, ears.
6. Panel Comics
 A panel comic is made up of one panel. The cartoon is about an
everyday event with a twist. Usually there is a punch line at the
bottom off the panel. The Far Side and Family Circus are examples
of this type of cartoon.
7. Comic Strips
 Comic strips are published in newspapers and magazines. They
usually consist of drawings and speech bubbles and are a series of
panels. The characters in comic strips will appear regularly.
Examples of comic strips would be The Phantom, Spiderman and
Hagar. Comic books are a collection of cartoons strips which
continue a storyline.
8. Political Cartoons
 Political Cartoons usually serve as a visual commentary on current
events. Usually satirical rather than just funny, they may say the
political viewpoint of the cartoonist or an addition to an editorial
opinion article in a newspaper or magazine. In other words, they
show the Cartoonists view of the Politics that they are drawing
about. But, sometimes Political Cartoons may express an idea that
the Government is trying to stop. Scroll down the page for an

9. Gag Cartoons
 Gag Cartoons usually consist of just one panel. This one panel
shows the humor in, or makes fun of a certain group of people,
rather than just a single person. Gag cartoons are usually found on

10. Web Comics
 Comic strips posted on the internet are web comics. Some
use animation and sound for special effects. Some web comics take
up much more space than newspapers want to print, and most offer
a large collection of earlier strips for new readers, so longer stories
can be told. Many webcomics are published (shown to people) by
independent artists.
11. Movie Cartoons
 From the beginning of the movie industry, some artists began
experimenting with making drawings that seemed to move. These moving
drawings also became known as "cartoons". They often depict animals
rather than humans. They were often just for fun, but sometimes,
particularly during World War II, were used for political reasons, just like the
cartoons in newspapers. Walt Disney and Warner Bros both made famous
cartoons. Famous cartoon characters are Felix the Cat (1922), Mickey
Mouse (1928),Bugs Bunny (1940) and Popeye(1929).
