2. Definition of the video conferencing :
1.a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or
more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions
simultaneously.
2.A technology that allows users in different locations to hold face-to-face
meetings without having to move to a single location. This technology is
particularly convenient for business users in different cities or even
different countries because it saves the time, expense and hassle associated
with business travel. Uses for video conferencing include holding routine
meetings, negotiating business deals and interviewing job candidates.
3. Objectives of using the video
conferencing in DE :
1.assist teacher to deliver high quality of teaching and
learning.
2.opens up possibilities for collaborative teaching and learning
to make best use of resources.
3.provide “live” support for students at remote sites.
4.give access to expertise not available within the institution.
4. 5.Connecting with guest speakers and experts.
6.Multi-school project collaboration.
7.Enabling teachers to share information and team-up
with teachers in remote sites.
8.Virtual field trips to museums, zoos, aquariums,
institutions and other interesting locations that are
geographically distant from the school.
5. Advantages:
1.Collaboration with schools where the pupils come from different cultures
leads to the development of multicultural relationships and understanding.
2.Can provide access to at-risk or special needs students.
3.Provides additional access to students at remote sites.
4.Faculty and staff needs can be met more quickly through just-in-time
training.
5.provide students with opportunities to work with their peers from other
institutions and countries.
6.users can see each other, which allows them to develop stronger
relationships.
7.Reduce travel costs.
6. 8.Improve use of executive time.
9.Speed up decision-making.
10.Keep meetings brief and more focused than face-to-face
meetings.
11.Enable top management to quickly and effectively
communicate with employees sitting in multiple locations.
12.Allows virtual project management via video and data
conferencing with geographically dispersed peer groups at short
notice.
13.Provides an effective way of delivering cost-efficient training
to individuals without the requirement to consistently travel to
central locations.
14.Creates a medium for conducting interviews.
7. Limitations:
1.Technical difficulties associated with smooth
transmissions that could result from software, hardware or
network failure.
2.Absence of technical support personnel for participants
who are unfamiliar with videoconferencing.
3.Lack of personal interaction.
4.High costs for videoconferencing and broadcasting
video.
5.Security issues.
8. Using Of Video Conferencing To Deliver
And Support Learning:
1.Enhanced motivation
2.Improved communication and presentation skills
3.Increased connection with outside resources
4.Effective learning environments
5.Expanded teaching capabilities
6.Links to people from different social, cultural, and
economic backgrounds

•This research uses dual-process cognitive theory to
describe how people process information differently when
it is delivered via videoconference rather than when it is
delivered face-to-face

•This white paper is designed to be a lifeline for practitioners,
researchers, and analysts and others who are just starting to look at
videoconferencing technology and understand its efficacy. So that
this audience can avoid drowning in the sea of distance learning
research, this paper provides one industry veteran’s view of the most
interesting and instructive research available at the current time. It
modulates the din surrounding the field, exploring some of the key
issues that occupy those who are committed to exploring how
videoconferencing can best be used.
11. Examples Of Video Conferencing :
1.Desktop conferencing using the Internet (IP) network :
This system uses the Internet to link desktop computers running
videoconferencing programs.
Advantages:
•It is cheap: You need any PC, an Internet link, cheap video
camera and microphone.
•It is accessible: you can videoconference from your own desk at
any time.
12. Disadvantages :
•Sound and picture are very poor quality.
•You are dependent on an Internet connection which
can be very slow.
•It is not suitable for medium or large groups of
people to use gathered round a PC.
