The Game of Open Access was created by library staff at the University of Huddersfield as a way to engage researchers with the key concepts and tools relating to Open Access (OA). It aims to develop an understanding of the role of Open Access through the initial idea for an article to its acceptance for publication. Along the way, researchers face familiar issues – such as going on a writing retreat or spending hours transcribing interviews - which will either enable them to progress or result in a setback. Interspersed with these events are Open Access Cards which need to be answered to test your knowledge of OA. Developed in early summer 2017, the Game has been played by researchers and librarians in the context of Open Access information sessions and library roadshows. It was introduced to the wider scholarly publishing community at UKSG Forum in London on 16 November 2017.
