5. What is Social Media?
Social Media refers to interaction among people
in which they create, share, and/or exchange
information and ideas in virtual communities
and network.
"Social"- Refers to instinctual needs humans have to connect
with other humans.
"Media"- what we use to make connections
with other humans.
"Social Media" - Media used for social interaction.

7. Statistics of Popular Social Media
Platforms (In Pakistan):-
The total number of Pakistani social media accounts crossed
over 44 million.
Facebook surpassed all others applications at 30 million
users across Pakistan, according to stats provided by PTA as
on November 15, 2016.
Instagram’s active users in Pakistan are 3.9 million
according to ‘Business Manager Dashboard’.
Twitter and Snapchat trailed behind others at 3.1 million
users as of July 2016 and 4.0 million users as of January
2017.

Platforms(over all):-
The internet has over 3.7 billion users worldwide, 2.3 billion
of those are active on social media.
According to BBC news 67% of the total respondents of
Facebook a very common and well known social portal
comprised of the youth and the students.
90% of Instagram users are younger than 35 years old.
29% of internet users with college degrees use Twitter,
compared to 20% with high school degrees or less.
Online adults aged 18-34 are most likely follow a brand via
social networking (nearly 95%).
9. Negative Effects:-
Teens who use Facebook more may have Psychological
disorders , including antisocial behaviors, mania and
aggressive tendencies.
Can be destructive, People check Facebook/WhatsApp very
frequently.
The desire to compare: we compare ourselves to others in
terms of looks, travelled destination, shopping sprees, friends
and so on.
Radiation: Phone calls, internet over phone, even idle phone
has a lot of radiation around it.
10. Negative Effects (Continued):-
Addiction: Internet shopping, chatting can be
addictive.
Effect on Health: Sitting all day in front of
laptops/computers may disturb body metabolism.
Eye Problems: Prolonged use of display
screens may weaken eye sight.
Reduction in Physical Activities.

Helps in conversation around the world.
Data, information can be exchanged easily.
Money over SMS can be saved by using
WhatsApp or other social networks.
Information can be directly sent to large
number of people easily.

Helps in making friends and meeting new
people.
