● Discuss your initial reaction in more detail. How did you feel? What existing products/previous rotation work did you want to
emulate?
● Add a brief discussion to your mind maps summarising what ideas you have developed, any that are more viable/enjoyable to
make. Discuss your thought process when coming up with your idea.
● Choose and aspect of your potential project and develop a mind map exploring that area in extensive detail and further
considerations of alternative options.
● With each mood board, ensure you have lots of images on the page. Fill each slide with images
● Diversify your mood boards- don’t just use images of existing products. Develop a mood/colour scheme/tone/feeling from each
mood board with any inspirational images.
● Add further detail discussing how your mood board will help you with project.
● Add a slide regarding the pros and cons of each of your written ideas. How do you feel about each of them? Any reservations
or concerns regarding making the product? ✅
Pre-proposal
My initial idea for my FMP is that I am going to create some promotional material for a film, such as posters and a movie
trailer. I am interested in film and TV so this topic is something I am looking forward to doing. I wanted to do a movie
trailer since a few weeks ago we looked at some previous work by students doing this media course and a few of the
people did trailers for movies. I have gave it some thought and I have got a basic idea of what I want the movie to be
about, but I will develop my idea more as I work through this project. I know some people that would be in my work.
Alongside this I think I will try and make a marketing campaign to help create public interest in my trailer.
Existing products I want to emulate
Previous rotations that I want to emulate: A previous rotation that I would like to emulate is the music video rotation.
This is the most similar project I have done to this one. I think my music video was good once completed, however I
didn’t plan very well so everything was very last minute. This will mean it will be important for my work that I plan
properly this time. In my music video, one of the things I thought I did well was keep the video in time with the music.
I would also like to emulate the Irn-Bru advert. In that advert something I did well is use music and sound effects to
suggest the mood of the video. This could be something I could do in my trailer.
Specific directors that have influenced my style
The main director that has influenced my idea is
Martin Scorsese. I like his films especially the
film Goodfellas.
Skills Audit
Strengths: One of my biggest strengths based on the work we have produced this year is
that I am quite good at editing and I have made some decent work through using
Adobe Premiere such as the IRN-BRU advert and the music video. I enjoyed editing and
filming these videos so it is something that I wanted to do in my FMP.
Another strength of mine is that I am decent at photoshop. This would help in this
project as it means I could make a poster or some promotional material for my movie.
Weaknesses: One problem I may face during this project is that I have not used any
special effects programmes such as after effects before. This will mean that I will need
to learn how to use it before I can add some effects into my trailer.
Another weakness is that I am not that good at acting and neither are the people that I
would use in this video. This could have an effect on the quality of my work as it will
make it less believable.

Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
How does your mood board inspire your project? (stuff that isn’t movies but inspires it)
My mood board inspires my project as it gives you an idea of the type of movie that I am interested in making. You can tell
that I want something action packed.
My mood board inspires my project as it gives me ideas for what I want to happen in the movie trailer. I have some ideas of
scenes and a lot of these scenes I can
One way my mood board inspires my work is that it shows the types of settings and locations that I could use in the trailer
How will your mood board influence your final product? (Things specifically from the media I am looking at such as film
trailers)
My mood board will influence my final product as it features similar themes and ideas to that I plan on using in my movie
trailer. My idea for the movie so far is that the main character is going to be a hitman so I have included images from
popular movies that involve hitmen such as Pulp Fiction and John Wick and also Agent 47 from the game Hitman.
How my mood board will help me with my project- My mood board will help me with my project as
Mood board for characters
Mood board analysis
The images in the top left are what I imagined the main character, Billy to be like. Quite a clever student that looks pretty
normal and blends into a crowd. The images in the top right are what I imagined Mike to be like- a stereotypical
mobster/gangster that wears smart suits.
The images in the bottom left are what I imagined Billy’s friend to be like. He is quite a tough kid that gets into fights and
likes boxing. However, as suggested by the character ‘Ned’ from Spiderman Homecoming, he is a little clumsy and dopey.
How will this mood board help my project?
This mood board will help my project as it shows how I imagine some of the characters to look in terms of the way they
dress, the way they act etc.
It also gives me an idea of what I want my characters to be like in terms of personality and how they act. I know some of
these characters from watching the films so I know how they act and these characters are how I imagined some of the
people in the film.
Mood board for locations
How will this mood board help me with my
project?
Idea for story
The idea I came up with for my story is that a
top grade student that is bored of his very
average life ends up meeting Mike, a gangster,
who invites him to become a hitman for the
mob.
Characters
in the movie
Billy- Despite being a top grade student, billy
is very bored and doesn't feel like he has
anything exciting happening in his life so
after meeting a boy in class who is always
bruised and beaten up he is introduced to
illegal fights which he finds he is really good
at.
Mike- a mob member that sees
Billy fighting and decides to take
him in and train him up as a
hitman for the gang
Miriam- She is a deadly killer who
is one of the most powerful people
in the world. After Billy
accidentally kills her brother
instead of her, she tries to find
Billy and kill him.
Dylan- Dylan is Billy’s friend.
He is quite poor.
He is a tough kid and likes
getting into fights. He is always
bruised.
Costumes
Billy
Mike
Mike is a stereotypical
mobster, wearing a suit,
smart shirt, shiny shoes
etc.
Miriam
She is often seen wearing
prison clothes in orange
as she has just been
released from jail
The clothing style of Billy will be very
casual. Although he is a hitman, he is also
a very ordinary teenager so he will wear
casual clothing such as hoodies, jeans
and t-shirts
Ways films are
promoted
Posters- Posters are used
Posters are shown at many different places such as at bus stops, in cinemas, on
websites in magazines etc.
Posters are meant to show what the film is about and the genre of the film on the
poster. For example, in a movie about football, there may be things such as football
boots, football kits etc and in an action movie there might be weapons explosions
etc.
Social media account- This would
help build up excitement for the
film and would appeal to many
different age demographics as
social media is used by young
people and adults
Guerilla marketing
This kind of marketing is done in
public places and is often pretty
unconventional.
Website- Some movies have
websites.
On these websites they often have a
gallery for photos, trailers and
information about the film. They
also often have social media links on
their websites.
Social media accounts
are good as they help
get fans involved with
the movie, allowing
fans to voice their
opinions and see
exclusive content that
they may not see
elsewhere.
Movie trailer
Movie trailers
Full length movie trailers usually follow a linear
narrative like how the actual film does and they
manage to introduce characters and reveal the
storyline of the film. Movie trailers usually end
on a light hearted note such as a joke or a
funny moment from the film.
Teaser trailer
Teaser trailers are very short, they are usually only around 30 to 60
seconds long. This means that in that time they need to get enough
footage to excite people and make them want to go and watch it, but
they don’t provide enough detail to reveal all the characters, plot etc. A
teaser trailer would be the easiest for me to make as it doesn't require
too many actors or too much footage. However the footage would need
to be good though as TV ads often require the most action to make sure
they grab the attention of the audience. There doesn't have to be any
narrative structure for teaser trailers.
What I am going to do
I think that I would be best off doing a teaser
trailer as by doing this I could show the key
elements of my film without needing to go into
too much detail over things such as the plot.
Also, I wouldn’t need too many actors to do this
so I would be able to easily get it filmed and
then spend time on making the trailer as good
as possible.
Things I love about the style of product I am
working with
I have always enjoyed movies and they were one of my main interests coming into
this course so when I had the option to do something related to video I knew
instantly a movie trailer was what I wanted to do.
I love that I have a lot of creative freedom for this project and that I am able to do
a trailer for whatever genre or type of film I want. I also like that I don’t just have
to focus on one single area of media and I am able to do some print work as well
as video.
Video is the area that I think I have enjoyed the most and done best in throughout
the year
Aspirations for this project
For this project, I would like to produce an entertaining and believable
movie trailer.
When my work is filmed and edited, I want the trailer to be like a movie
that I would want to watch.
I would like my movie trailer to be edited well and to contain special
effects.
I want my movie trailer to be similar to some of the trailers that I will
analyse.
Next steps
I would definitely be interested in doing something related to film or
video in university or for a career. These aspects of media were two of
the things I was most interested in coming into this course and I have
enjoyed doing video related work more than the other areas
throughout the year so I would definitely be interested in doing more in
future.
Locations
A dark street or alley- this is
where Billy will be having his
fights at
A place such as a pub
A window- Billy aims his
sniper from here to try
shoot people
Things I like about movie trailers
I like movie trailers as they help create excitement for
upcoming films by only giving you a taste of what the
movie is going to be like, giving you the basis of what
the film is about and showing you some of the most
entertaining moments from the film. Trailers are one
of the most important things when it comes to
advertising a film. Even if a film isn’t actually very
good having a good trailer makes the viewers want to
watch it anyway.
Things I don’t like about movie
trailers
One thing that I don’t like about some movie trailers
is that they give away too much of the plot, making
the movie less exciting to go and see for yourself.
Pros of doing a teaser trailer Cons of doing a teaser trailer
Teaser trailers are short so I may not need too many
actors
Doing a movie trailer will be difficult to do
Video is the area that I am best at I may not have enough actors to make a full trailer
After effects is available at college for making special
effects.
The locations may be boring
Pros of doing a teaser trailer
Doing a teaser trailer would definitely be something I
would be able to do as they are quite short so I
wouldn’t need too many people for actors
I am looking forward to doing some video related
work as
Cons of doing a teaser trailer
Because teaser trailers are much shorter than a full trailer, the clips I get
in the trailer would need to be very interesting and would need to tell
I will need to use video effects in my trailer whether this is for text in
the video or for special effects, so I am going to need to use adobe after
effects. This may be quite difficult because I have never used it before.
Something else I am concerned about is that I may not have many
interesting locations to choose from. Movies often have interesting
locations such as big cities, but I don’t really have access to any places
like that unless I went to somewhere like Leeds.
Pros and cons of doing a poster
Pros: I am quite good at using photoshop so this
means that I may be able to produce some good
posters.
Cons: Print was one of the areas that I didn’t enjoy
too much and my print work didn’t get the best grade
so this might mean that the posters for my work
Pros of my ideas: I think that making a teaser trailer is a good idea. Teaser trailers are quite
short and so need to show all the best bits of a film in a short period of time so this would mean
It would also mean
Cons of my ideas:
One thing that I am worried about is the amount of people I would have available for my work. I
know some people that would be happy to help me with my work but with everyone doing
different courses at different times in college and having jobs etc I would need to find a time
when these people would all be available.
Key Influences
One of my main influences going into this project is the trailer for the
movie Vice. Although I haven’t actually seen this film, I really liked
the trailer. It really grabs and holds your attention through the
editing and the use of song. The trailer uses a lot of different clips
from the movie and keeps them in time with the music so it keeps
the viewer interested. The song used in the trailer (The Man by The
Killers) is catchy and sticks to memory so when you think of the song
you will associate it with this movie.
Key Influences
A story that has influenced my idea for the movie is an
article I saw on the daily mail. It was about a top grade
student in England that was arrested because in his
free time he was in a Chinese gang. He helped them
with their crimes and helped them beat someone to
death. I thought that if I could base an idea somewhat
around the idea of a good student doing something
criminal like this, then I may get an interesting story for
the movie.
Key Influences
Another key influence of mine is crime films
such as gangster movies. Crime movies are
one of my favorite genres. I like the director
Martin Scorsese.

  • 3. Pre-proposal My initial idea for my FMP is that I am going to create some promotional material for a film, such as posters and a movie trailer. I am interested in film and TV so this topic is something I am looking forward to doing. I wanted to do a movie trailer since a few weeks ago we looked at some previous work by students doing this media course and a few of the people did trailers for movies. I have gave it some thought and I have got a basic idea of what I want the movie to be about, but I will develop my idea more as I work through this project. I know some people that would be in my work. Alongside this I think I will try and make a marketing campaign to help create public interest in my trailer. Existing products I want to emulate Previous rotations that I want to emulate: A previous rotation that I would like to emulate is the music video rotation. This is the most similar project I have done to this one. I think my music video was good once completed, however I didn’t plan very well so everything was very last minute. This will mean it will be important for my work that I plan properly this time. In my music video, one of the things I thought I did well was keep the video in time with the music. I would also like to emulate the Irn-Bru advert. In that advert something I did well is use music and sound effects to suggest the mood of the video. This could be something I could do in my trailer.
  • 4. Specific directors that have influenced my style The main director that has influenced my idea is Martin Scorsese. I like his films especially the film Goodfellas.
  • 5. Skills Audit Strengths: One of my biggest strengths based on the work we have produced this year is that I am quite good at editing and I have made some decent work through using Adobe Premiere such as the IRN-BRU advert and the music video. I enjoyed editing and filming these videos so it is something that I wanted to do in my FMP. Another strength of mine is that I am decent at photoshop. This would help in this project as it means I could make a poster or some promotional material for my movie. Weaknesses: One problem I may face during this project is that I have not used any special effects programmes such as after effects before. This will mean that I will need to learn how to use it before I can add some effects into my trailer. Another weakness is that I am not that good at acting and neither are the people that I would use in this video. This could have an effect on the quality of my work as it will make it less believable.
  • 6. Skills audit I am good at this I am OK at this I am not confident Team Working Joining in discussions ✓ Working in a group ✓ Influencing others ✓ Accepting the opinions of others ✓ Learning from others ✓ Knowing my roles and responsibilities ✓ Problem Solving Analysing facts Understanding why things go wrong ✓ Finding solutions ✓ Working to the requirements of a brief ✓ Self- Management Meeting deadlines ✓ Getting to class on time ✓ Being responsible for my coursework ✓ Working productively in class ✓ Not using my mobile phone in class ✓ Communication and Literacy Asking questions ✓ Listening to others ✓ Being accurate with spelling, punctuation and grammar ✓ Speaking to a group ✓ Communicating my ideas and concepts for production ✓ Speaking formally and informally in appropriate situations ✓ Writing clearly ✓ Application of IT Using computers to file and store information ✓ Using Adobe Premiere ✓ Using Adobe Photoshop ✓ Using basic computer packages like Microsoft Word and Excel ✓
  • 8. Mood Board Analysis How does your mood board inspire your project? (stuff that isn’t movies but inspires it) My mood board inspires my project as it gives you an idea of the type of movie that I am interested in making. You can tell that I want something action packed. My mood board inspires my project as it gives me ideas for what I want to happen in the movie trailer. I have some ideas of scenes and a lot of these scenes I can One way my mood board inspires my work is that it shows the types of settings and locations that I could use in the trailer How will your mood board influence your final product? (Things specifically from the media I am looking at such as film trailers) My mood board will influence my final product as it features similar themes and ideas to that I plan on using in my movie trailer. My idea for the movie so far is that the main character is going to be a hitman so I have included images from popular movies that involve hitmen such as Pulp Fiction and John Wick and also Agent 47 from the game Hitman. How my mood board will help me with my project- My mood board will help me with my project as
  • 9. Mood board for characters
  • 10. Mood board analysis The images in the top left are what I imagined the main character, Billy to be like. Quite a clever student that looks pretty normal and blends into a crowd. The images in the top right are what I imagined Mike to be like- a stereotypical mobster/gangster that wears smart suits. The images in the bottom left are what I imagined Billy’s friend to be like. He is quite a tough kid that gets into fights and likes boxing. However, as suggested by the character ‘Ned’ from Spiderman Homecoming, he is a little clumsy and dopey. How will this mood board help my project? This mood board will help my project as it shows how I imagine some of the characters to look in terms of the way they dress, the way they act etc. It also gives me an idea of what I want my characters to be like in terms of personality and how they act. I know some of these characters from watching the films so I know how they act and these characters are how I imagined some of the people in the film.
  • 11. Mood board for locations
  • 12. How will this mood board help me with my project?
  • 13. Idea for story The idea I came up with for my story is that a top grade student that is bored of his very average life ends up meeting Mike, a gangster, who invites him to become a hitman for the mob.
  • 14. Characters in the movie Billy- Despite being a top grade student, billy is very bored and doesn't feel like he has anything exciting happening in his life so after meeting a boy in class who is always bruised and beaten up he is introduced to illegal fights which he finds he is really good at. Mike- a mob member that sees Billy fighting and decides to take him in and train him up as a hitman for the gang Miriam- She is a deadly killer who is one of the most powerful people in the world. After Billy accidentally kills her brother instead of her, she tries to find Billy and kill him. Dylan- Dylan is Billy’s friend. He is quite poor. He is a tough kid and likes getting into fights. He is always bruised.
  • 15. Costumes Billy Mike Mike is a stereotypical mobster, wearing a suit, smart shirt, shiny shoes etc. Miriam She is often seen wearing prison clothes in orange as she has just been released from jail The clothing style of Billy will be very casual. Although he is a hitman, he is also a very ordinary teenager so he will wear casual clothing such as hoodies, jeans and t-shirts
  • 16. Ways films are promoted Posters- Posters are used Posters are shown at many different places such as at bus stops, in cinemas, on websites in magazines etc. Posters are meant to show what the film is about and the genre of the film on the poster. For example, in a movie about football, there may be things such as football boots, football kits etc and in an action movie there might be weapons explosions etc. Social media account- This would help build up excitement for the film and would appeal to many different age demographics as social media is used by young people and adults Guerilla marketing This kind of marketing is done in public places and is often pretty unconventional. Website- Some movies have websites. On these websites they often have a gallery for photos, trailers and information about the film. They also often have social media links on their websites. Social media accounts are good as they help get fans involved with the movie, allowing fans to voice their opinions and see exclusive content that they may not see elsewhere.
  • 17. Movie trailer Movie trailers Full length movie trailers usually follow a linear narrative like how the actual film does and they manage to introduce characters and reveal the storyline of the film. Movie trailers usually end on a light hearted note such as a joke or a funny moment from the film. Teaser trailer Teaser trailers are very short, they are usually only around 30 to 60 seconds long. This means that in that time they need to get enough footage to excite people and make them want to go and watch it, but they don’t provide enough detail to reveal all the characters, plot etc. A teaser trailer would be the easiest for me to make as it doesn't require too many actors or too much footage. However the footage would need to be good though as TV ads often require the most action to make sure they grab the attention of the audience. There doesn't have to be any narrative structure for teaser trailers.
  • 18. What I am going to do I think that I would be best off doing a teaser trailer as by doing this I could show the key elements of my film without needing to go into too much detail over things such as the plot. Also, I wouldn’t need too many actors to do this so I would be able to easily get it filmed and then spend time on making the trailer as good as possible.
  • 19. Things I love about the style of product I am working with I have always enjoyed movies and they were one of my main interests coming into this course so when I had the option to do something related to video I knew instantly a movie trailer was what I wanted to do. I love that I have a lot of creative freedom for this project and that I am able to do a trailer for whatever genre or type of film I want. I also like that I don’t just have to focus on one single area of media and I am able to do some print work as well as video. Video is the area that I think I have enjoyed the most and done best in throughout the year
  • 20. Aspirations for this project For this project, I would like to produce an entertaining and believable movie trailer. When my work is filmed and edited, I want the trailer to be like a movie that I would want to watch. I would like my movie trailer to be edited well and to contain special effects. I want my movie trailer to be similar to some of the trailers that I will analyse.
  • 21. Next steps I would definitely be interested in doing something related to film or video in university or for a career. These aspects of media were two of the things I was most interested in coming into this course and I have enjoyed doing video related work more than the other areas throughout the year so I would definitely be interested in doing more in future.
  • 22. Locations A dark street or alley- this is where Billy will be having his fights at A place such as a pub A window- Billy aims his sniper from here to try shoot people
  • 23. Things I like about movie trailers I like movie trailers as they help create excitement for upcoming films by only giving you a taste of what the movie is going to be like, giving you the basis of what the film is about and showing you some of the most entertaining moments from the film. Trailers are one of the most important things when it comes to advertising a film. Even if a film isn’t actually very good having a good trailer makes the viewers want to watch it anyway.
  • 24. Things I don’t like about movie trailers One thing that I don’t like about some movie trailers is that they give away too much of the plot, making the movie less exciting to go and see for yourself.
  • 25. Pros of doing a teaser trailer Cons of doing a teaser trailer Teaser trailers are short so I may not need too many actors Doing a movie trailer will be difficult to do Video is the area that I am best at I may not have enough actors to make a full trailer After effects is available at college for making special effects. The locations may be boring
  • 26. Pros of doing a teaser trailer Doing a teaser trailer would definitely be something I would be able to do as they are quite short so I wouldn’t need too many people for actors I am looking forward to doing some video related work as
  • 27. Cons of doing a teaser trailer Because teaser trailers are much shorter than a full trailer, the clips I get in the trailer would need to be very interesting and would need to tell I will need to use video effects in my trailer whether this is for text in the video or for special effects, so I am going to need to use adobe after effects. This may be quite difficult because I have never used it before. Something else I am concerned about is that I may not have many interesting locations to choose from. Movies often have interesting locations such as big cities, but I don’t really have access to any places like that unless I went to somewhere like Leeds.
  • 28. Pros and cons of doing a poster Pros: I am quite good at using photoshop so this means that I may be able to produce some good posters. Cons: Print was one of the areas that I didn’t enjoy too much and my print work didn’t get the best grade so this might mean that the posters for my work
  • 29. Pros of my ideas: I think that making a teaser trailer is a good idea. Teaser trailers are quite short and so need to show all the best bits of a film in a short period of time so this would mean It would also mean Cons of my ideas: One thing that I am worried about is the amount of people I would have available for my work. I know some people that would be happy to help me with my work but with everyone doing different courses at different times in college and having jobs etc I would need to find a time when these people would all be available.
  • 30. Key Influences One of my main influences going into this project is the trailer for the movie Vice. Although I haven’t actually seen this film, I really liked the trailer. It really grabs and holds your attention through the editing and the use of song. The trailer uses a lot of different clips from the movie and keeps them in time with the music so it keeps the viewer interested. The song used in the trailer (The Man by The Killers) is catchy and sticks to memory so when you think of the song you will associate it with this movie.
  • 31. Key Influences A story that has influenced my idea for the movie is an article I saw on the daily mail. It was about a top grade student in England that was arrested because in his free time he was in a Chinese gang. He helped them with their crimes and helped them beat someone to death. I thought that if I could base an idea somewhat around the idea of a good student doing something criminal like this, then I may get an interesting story for the movie.
  • 32. Key Influences Another key influence of mine is crime films such as gangster movies. Crime movies are one of my favorite genres. I like the director Martin Scorsese.
