Rona de jos is a traditionally village from Maramures, Romania, full
off traditionally houses and people how keeps traditions alive.
The village of Rona de Jos is located in the central-northern part of the
county, on the Ronisoara valley, 12 km away from Sighetu Marmatiei.
The Rona de Jos commune stretches across the Ronisoara valley that
springs from the Hera forest. It is surrounded by the localities: Rona
de Sus to the east, Viseu Valley to the north, Sighetu Marmaţiei,
Crăciuneşti-Tisa, Vadu Izei and Porcului Valley.
The village is rich in traditions, preserving interesting legends and
happenings. The local tradition speaks of a tunnel at the eastern
border of the village (after Mihai Dăncuş, George Cristea - Maramureş,
a living museum in the center of Europe). The Nan and Tivadar
families are the oldest noble Romanian families in Rona de Jos (Ioan
Mihali de Apsa, Joody Pal, Ioan M. Bota).
