Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking is triggered whenever the victim is reminded of a painful
memory. However, there is more to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking than meets the eye.
First of all, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is defined as a psychological and physical condition
that can be brought about by an extremely frightening or distressing event. In the past, only war
victims or war survivors were thought to develop Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome or PTSD. Now,
almost anyone who experiences a majorly frightening event develops PTSD.
The symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome include frequent flashbacks and nightmares,
being easily startled, numbness, shaking, anxiety, social withdrawal and insomnia. Flashbacks
and nightmares are the key symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Another symptom that
needs a closer look is excessive shaking. Shaking is a natural response of the body when the
temperature drops or when the body feels threatened. Socially, sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder might find the shaking in public an embarrassing experience because once it starts it isn't
easy to shake off. However, a more serious problem with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome
shaking is that the shaking can be so severe that it starts to affect the vital organs of the body.
When a severe Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking occurs, the body is kept in a hyper-
aroused state. In other words, your body is put in a "fight or flight" mode. Under this state,
everything in your body shoots up or is hyperactive except for your gastrointestinal or genitor-
urinary systems. Your blood pressure shoots up, your heart beats faster, your muscles are tense
and your lungs are constricted. Under this state, it is harder for the body to go back to
homeostasis or equilibrium. In severe cases, the shaking will even warrant admission to the
emergency room.
Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking can subside through different methods and techniques.
The most effective technique in treating your Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking is to learn
to relax. When you relax your mind, your body and all your organ systems will learn to relax as
well. Other methods used to treat Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome shaking include cognitive
behavior therapy, stress management training, and antidepressant or tranquilizing medications.
The last option, which is the use of medications should be the last resort and is only considered
when shaking is so severe or nightmares and flashbacks keep recurring in alarming frequency.
