Andrew Wiggins bio
1. AndrewWiggins-
Born February 23, 1995 in Toronto to former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and
former Olympic track and field sprinter Marita Payne-Wiggins, Andrew grew up in
Canada and went to Vaughan Secondary School before transferring to Huntington Prep
School in Huntington West Virginia in 2011. Andrew is a shooting guard and small
forward who has had the opportunity to play for and medal for the FIBA (International
Basketball Federation) World U17 Championship in Germany 2010, and FIBA Americas
U18 Championship in Brazil 2012 on the Canadian team, both teams earned a bronze
medal at the end of the tournament. After graduating high school with the class of 2013
as the top prospect for the class of 2013, Andrew committed to play D-1 basketball at
Kansas University. Andrew during his first year as a Jayhawk averaged 17.1 points per
game, along with being named as one of the 10 semi-finalists for the Naismith College
Player of the Year. Wiggins holds honors as 2012 Gatorade West Virginia Boys’
basketball player of the year, McDonalds’s All American 2013, Gatorade National Player
of the year 2013, Mr.Basketball USA 2013, Big 12 Freshman of the Year 2014, First
team All-Big 12 2014, and Consensus second team All-American 2014. On March 31,
2014 Andrew announced he would be entering the 2014 NBA draft, and to no surprise
he was the number one overall draft pick going to the Cleveland Cavaliers on June 26,
2014. During a Draft day interview he was asked what it will be like to see himself in
NBA 2k15, his response “crazy, I play those games all the time with my friends”.
I believe that Andrew is a great example of “Greatness Awaits” he is a super
talented and young player who knows that his work has just begun within basketball.
With all the questions being asked and commentary about Andrew he knows that he is
the “baby” of his new team and knows that he needs to do everything he can to get
better and help secure his team a playoff position in the 2014-2015 season. I believe
that during his inaugural season in the NBA we will be seeing “greatness” from Andrew
Wiggins.
