Parking Data Quality Project
Seattle
June-July 2013
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Summary: Overall Accuracy
Parkopedia has the edge over INRIX in overall
accuracy. Much of the discrepancy could be removed
by simply listing all available information.

Project Definition & Goals
What It Is
• Conduct site visits for 50+
parking data points in the
Seattle metropolitan area
to validate INRIX parking
supplier data information
Goals
• Measure the accuracy &
availability of INRIX
parking supplier data
compared to real time
parking information
• Compare INRIX parking
supplier data to
competitor Parkopedia
INRIX Confidential
METHODOLOGY
INRIX Confidential
PDQP – Methodology
• Selected city: Seattle
• Selected data providers: INRIX and Parkopedia
• Number of suitable parking lots from data feeds: 50+
• Number of parking lots checked on-site: 50+ total
INRIX Confidential
PDQP – Methodology (continued)
• Key criteria checked:
- Lot name
- Lot address
- Phone number
- Latitude/Longitude
- Lot type
- Opening hours
- Payment type
- Hourly rates
- Rate restrictions
- Parking restrictions
INRIX Confidential
PDQP – Methodology (continued)
• Location of parking lots:
- Downtown
- Airport
- Tourist areas
- Commercial hubs
• Timeframe: On-site checks in June/July 2013
• Provider data sources: Combination of provider website,
mobile app and data feeds (assuming data was the same
for each medium)
INRIX Confidential
PDQP – Methodology (continued)
• Evaluation: Provider data is compared against on-site
findings. A match of the provider data with the on-site
evidence (ground truth) receives the value 1, a mismatch
(or missing) the value 0, a partial match the value 0.5.
• Computation: Based on the accumulatively scored
values (1, 0, 0.5) the accuracy of the parking supplier
data was calculated for
- Overall
- Criteria such as address of parking lot and rates
• Documentation: The results were documented in MS
Excel spreadsheets and MS PowerPoint charts
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Methodology: Data Acquisition/Evaluation
Example results from spreadsheet (INRIX v. Real Time)
RESULTS: DETAILED COMPARISON
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Overall Accuracy for ‘Lot address’
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Wrong street or number
- No entrance on listed street address
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Lot address’
Parkopedia performs well in listing the correct
address information, often additionally providing
several different common names (Port of Seattle
Parking Garage, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Garage)
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Lot address’
Example of wrong/missing airport parking garage
address information by INRIX.
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Lot address’
Example for wrong address information by INRIX.
(See address number on image from MasterPark website)
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Latitude/Longitude’
INRIX Confidential
Both INRIX and Parkopedia had correct
coordinate information available (INRIX provides
additional Lat/Long coordinates for the middle of the lot)
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Lot type’
INRIX Confidential
Both INRIX and Parkopedia had correct lot
type information available.
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Opening hours’
INRIX Confidential
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Not listing all available information
- Partially incorrect information
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Opening hours’
Example of partially incorrect information by
Parkopedia (Monday)
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Opening hours’
Example of Parkopedia performing well by listing
all the hour/rate information provided by the
parking site.
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Forms of payment’
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Missing information about cash payment option
- Not 'cash only’
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Hourly rates’
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Partially incorrect or missing info
INRIX Confidential
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Hourly rates’
INRIX Confidential
Example of INRIX providing accurate hourly rates.
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Hourly rates’
INRIX Confidential
Example of INRIX providing accurate hourly rates.
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Hourly rates’
INRIX Confidential
Example of INRIX providing accurate hourly rates.
INRIX Confidential
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Partially incorrect or missing information
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Rate restrictions’
INRIX Confidential
Example of Parkopedia displaying rates with validated
parking for the M-Street Garage.
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Rate restrictions’
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Rate restrictions’
INRIX Confidential
Example of additional information provided by
Parkopedia that is not provided by INRIX (early bird
and overnight specials)
PDQP Results: Overall accuracy for ‘Parking restrictions’
Discrepancies are largely due to
- Partially incorrect or missing information on
maximum park time
- Reserved for guests/permit parking/monthly parking
INRIX Confidential
INRIX Confidential
Example of missing information from INRIX. (Failing
to display 10hr maximum parking restriction on weekends that
Parkopedia shows upfront)
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Parking restrictions’
PDQP Results: Findings for ‘Parking restrictions’
INRIX Confidential
Example of missing data from INRIX that fails to
mention a 4hr maximum parking restriction on a
24hr lot (Notice incorrect INRIX address as well)
• Parkopedia provides all the information
available (early bird specials, overnight rates,
validated parking, motorcycle rates etc)
• Most of the discrepancies INRIX has can be
solved by doing the same, by providing the
data available
