Roland Barthe’s
‘Good vs evil’
theory can be
applied to this
poster, because
the audience can
easily identify that
the character sat
on the chair is
‘good’. Meaning
that the other
unknown character
must be ‘evil’.
Extensive list of production credits is an
unconventional feature for feature film
posters.
Conventionally feature
film posters include an
age certificate near the
bottom of the poster. This
poster doesn’t include an
age certificate, therefore
the rules governing short
films must be different.
On the other hand, this
short film wasn’t
produced by a
professional company
therefore they may not
have to comply with the
rules governing feature
films.
The ray of light connotes
that the protagonist’s
suffering may not be
permanent. They may
escape the torture they
are suffering in the poster.

that the narrative
revolves around
these characters.
The unknown
identities of the
character’s
connotes that the
film isn't about
individuality, it
focuses on
humanity as a
collective group.
The typography used tells the audience that the
short film mainly belongs to the ‘Sci-fi’ genre
(science fiction).

to survive. This is
coberated through
the use of gasmasks that the
characters are
wearing. The
conjoined element
suggests that they
need each other in
order to
survive, possibly
making the short
film about
friendships and

Simplistic use of colour
connotes the film only
conforms with one or two
genres.

conveys order of
importance, conno

‘food chain’
concept. With the

Javier Bardem as
Anton Chechu)
being at the top of
the ‘food chain’.
The colour scheme used signifies the genre of the film (thriller)
and the tone of some of the scenes in the film. For example the
dark colour scheme conveys danger, and this is one of the
conventional features of a thriller film.
Critics comment, a
conventional feature of film
posters. The minimalistic
amount of comments make
the film seem ‘classical’, the
absence creates the opinion
that the audience don’t
need persuading.
The image of the man being
chased by a car connotes
that he is being hunted, this
tells the audience the basic
narrative concept.
