#Club-o-Rama!
Fall 2016
Why Clubs?
Students involved in clubs are more likely to:
❏Be Leaders
❏Be Task Completers
❏Voice Opinions Appropriately
❏Graduate High School
❏Earn more than $50,000 a year through employment
What clubs are being offered?
The following slides contain explanations of the clubs being offered this
semester.
★ Some clubs are open to ALL grades and some to SPECIFIC grade levels.
Later today, you will complete a club selection Google Form indicating your
TOP 3 club choices. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE FORM.
Please take out a sheet of paper to write down some notes about the clubs
that you are most interested in joining and any club requirements.
Andy Griffith
Come join us alongside the lives of Widower Sheriff
Andy and his son Opie in fictional Mayberry, North
Carolina. “While there is virtually no crimes to
solve, most of Andy’s time is spent philosophizing
and calming down his cousin, Deputy Barney.”
www.imbd.com
Laughs are good, but Andy’s life lessons are even
better. Andy teaches us to listen and evaluate
carefully before reacting. Good advice for all.
Life lessons from the Andy Griffith Show
Everyone has value and something to offer.
Everyone has something to teach us if we will just listen.
Remember, winning is not everything, but being a good sport is always important.
Remember, the love of family and community was, and always will be the most important lesson
in life.
Andy Warhol
Pop Art
This club is best suited for students
who enjoy sketching and creating their
own versions of Pop Art.
“Pop artists celebrated commonplace objects and people
of everyday life, in this way seeking to elevate popular
culture to the level of fine art. Perhaps owing to the
incorporation of commercial images, Pop art has become
one of the most recognizable styles of modern art.”
http://www.theartstory.org/movement-pop-art.htm#synopsys_header
You will need black ink
sharpies for this club.
ANIMÉ
Do you like drawing anime characters?
Can you make your characters come to life in storyboards?
Bring your drawing materials and samples of your work to the first club meeting!
Come draw alongside other anime artists! We watch videos to learn how to
draw piece by piece anime characters while building our portfolios.
Campus Beautification Club
Do you have a knack for landscaping design or creative ideas for interior design?
Are you handy with paint? Potting plants? Flower beds? Creating inspiring spaces?
Maybe you have an Eagle Scout project that needs to be completed…?
We are looking for a small group of about 10-15 students to form our Campus
Beautification Club. We have some project ideas that need to be completed to
improve the atmosphere of our campus. And, we would love to hear your voice on
some other creative projects.
Board Games
Are you a fan of board games?
Do you have access to board games that you can bring and leave at school for
a few weeks at a time?
Do you play well with others?
Are you open to learning how to play new games?
Are you willing to teach others how to play a new game?
Come have some good ole’ board game fun with us!
Brain Teasers & Logic Club
There are three switches downstairs. Each corresponds to one of the three light bulbs
in the attic. You can turn the switches on and off and leave them in any position. How
would you identify which switch corresponds to which light bulb, if you are only
allowed one trip upstairs?
Do you like brain teasers, riddles, and logic puzzles?
Come have fun with us as we exercise our minds!
I just found a number with an interesting property:
When I divide it by 2, the remainder is 1.
When I divide it by 3, the remainder is 2.
When I divide it by 4, the remainder is 3.
When I divide it by 5, the remainder is 4.
When I divide it by 6, the remainder is 5.
When I divide it by 7, the remainder is 6.
When I divide it by 8, the remainder is 7.
When I divide it by 9, the remainder is 8.
When I divide it by 10, the remainder is 9.
It's not a small number, but it's not really big, either.
Find the smallest number with such property.
Busy Bees
Have you always wanted to learn to crochet?
Maybe you already know how but need some time to practice or to work on
current projects.
Come join the Busy Bees!

In this age of computers, we often forget
how much fun can be had with a
simple, inexpensive deck of cards!
Come join us as we gather and learn to
play organized, fun, and family
friendly card games!
You may need to provide the materials.
Top 10 Friendly Card Games:
1. Go Fish
2. Crazy Eights

Chess is an ancient game that is still enjoyed by people of all ages
and all skill levels around the world.
Do you already love the game of chess?
Come show off your strategy and improve your skills as you
compete against other students and try to become the highest
ranking player.
Never played chess before? That’s okay, too! Come and learn the rules
and strategies of this classic “Sport for the Mind” and then practice
against other players.
“Don't be a pawn in somebody's game. Find the attitude which gives you the maximum strength and the maximum dignity, no
matter what else is going on” - Anne Rice
#ClubKNOT!
“This is a club ‘KNOT’ to be in, unless you are open to meeting
new people!”
#ClubKNOT focuses on spreading school spirit and cheer by
making friendship bracelets to pass on to others.
Maybe you already know how to make Friendship Bracelets, or maybe you’re new at it...
...either way, come tie the Friendship Knot with us! Then, use them to reach out and get to
know other FMMS family members.
Coloring Club 6 & 7
Did you know that coloring can lead to better academics and better health?
All you will need for this club are colored pencils, crayons, or gel pens.
Coloring requires attention to detail which allows your brain to temporarily let go of the things going on in
your life that might be dragging you down.
Coloring also helps you relax which can lead to: lowered blood pressure, reduced anxiety, and headache
relief. Coloring can help you get focused for an upcoming assignment or test!
#Destination DIY!
Do you enjoy making arts and crafts?
Do you find yourself spending time on Pinterest or watching YouTube
DIY videos?

http://www.diynetwork.com/

Girls Engineering 6 & 7
Have you ever had a thought about something that hasn’t been invented yet? (i.e.
a machine that folds your clothes? A candy bar that is as healthy as a fruit?)
Daydreaming is the first step to engineering. In the Girls Engineering Club,
we will come up with some amazing innovations such as solutions to picking up
litter, creating a table out of newspaper, designing jewelry from old CD’s, and tie-
dyed engineering. We will meet some female engineers as well. This club is a
great place for girls who think creatively and enjoy exploring ways to solve
problems and build solutions.
Guitar - 7 & 8
Do you own an acoustic guitar? Want to further develop
your knowledge of chords, scales, and songs?
Can you bring your guitar to school and get it home on club
days? (You cannot bring it on a bus!)
Improv
Improvisation is a form of theater where
most or all of what is performed is created
at the moment it is performed. In its purest
form, the dialogue, action, story, and
characters are created collaboratively by
the players as the improvisation unfolds
in present time, without use of an already
prepared, written script.
Jacket Harmony (6th)
The goal of this club is to introduce 6th grade students to a beginning
choral program at a high level. Students will learn to sing basic warm-
ups, Solfege exercises and two-part harmony.
The culminating event for Jacket Harmony will be to perform 2 selections
for the Winter School Assembly in December along with the Band and
Honors Choruses.
There are no audition requirements for this club, but be advised
you will be expected to sing during each club meeting.
Just Dance...Yellow Jacket Style! - 6 & 7
Do you need to ‘bust-a-move’ or ‘shake-it-off’?
Maybe you need to ‘whip and nae nae’…
Perhaps, you should just ‘shut up and dance…’
If you enjoy showing off your dance moves, this club
could be for you.
We will be using “Just Dance” videos to break out
and dance in a friendly dance competition each
club day.
