Fredrick Douglass Fredrick Douglass was one of the major figures in the abolitionist movement. He was a great speaker, an advisor to Lincoln during the civil war, and a newspaper writer. He was one of the first great black speakers and fought for equality to all men.
Ulysses S. Grant Ulysses S Grant, started his military career by leading a small volunteer military unit. He quickly rose to the rank of General-in-Charge and on April 9, 1865 he defeated the confederate forces at Appomattox courthouse. Then in 1868 he was elected president of the united states.
Richard Gatling Richard Gatling was a well know inventor, with inventions including the Screw Propeller, the Rice-Sowing machine and many others. But his most famous invention was the Gatling Gun. The United States purchased these guns for the Civil War in 1865, but few were used. They were continued to be used by the U.S. until 1911. Richard Gatling died in 1903 at the age of 85.
Abraham Lincoln grew up a boy in Illinois. He grew up in a poor family and became self-educated. He became a lawyer and an Illinois State Legislator. He also became a one-term member of the House of Representatives. He was president during the Civil War and was famous for freeing the slaves. Abraham Lincoln
Thomas Jackson was one of the best Confederate Generals during the Civil War. In fact he was second to General Lee. During the Battle of Chancellorsville he was accidently shot by Confederate pickets. He survived but lost an arm in the process. He died 8 days later from pneumonia. Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson
I’m sure the general would’ve thanked your first of all for the invitation. However you must know that he will most definitely know who sent out these letters but General Jackson’s been dead for nearly 2 years now. But don’t feel sad he lived to be 39,a fair age to live. From Debby, the Post Office Secretary Thomas Jackson RSVP
Harriet Tubman was an African –American abolitionist, and a Union spy during the civil war. She freed dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad. She also served for women’s suffrage. She suffered throughout her life with brain trauma. Not one that crippled her, but gave her seizures, headaches, and powerful dream activity. Harriet Tubman
Benjamin Prentiss Union Major General Benjamin Prentiss organized a volunteer company from his home town and was appointed Colonel of the 7th Illinois regiment. He later got promoted to Brigadier General and was relocated to southern Missouri. He was taken prisoner on the first day of the Battle of Shilo , along with the rest of his company. He was later released in October 1862, and continued his military career until he resigned in October 1863.
Thank you for this invitation to your party. It warms my heart that you would invite a veteran like me to you dinner. I regret to inform you I am unable to attend. I have to continue to look after my family and my wife would kill me if I left them. .FromBenjamin Prentiss Benjamin Prentiss RSVP
Henry Clay was a statesman who represented Kentucky. He served as Speaker of the House and Secretary of State. He was against having slavery intertwined with politics. He was for improving the infrastructure of the US. Henry Clay
Um, hello. Thank you for sending this invitation but you should really check who sent these letters out. Mr. Clay has been dead for over a decade. I’m sure he would have loved to come the dinner but he obviously can’t. From Debby, the Post Office Secretary Henry Clay RSVP
Henry Fleming is the protagonist from Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage. He is a young boy who signed up for the army. He imagined the glories of coming home a war hero and he wanted that. He realizes though that war is not what he thought it was. In the end though he has changed immensely. Henry Fleming
Robert E. Lee was the main general for the Confederate Army. He is a graduate form West Point and a skilled officer. He was invited to lead the Union forces but refused saying he could not fight against his home state. Robert E. Lee
John Booth was an American stage actor. He is infamous for assassinating President Lincoln in Ford’s Theater. He was against abolitionist movements which led him to be angry at giving slaves their basic rights. Of the conspiracy involving Lincoln, he was the only one who fully carried out the plan. One of his famous lines was “Sic temper tyrannis.” John Wilkes Booth
