2. OUTLINE
• Introduction
• Activity 1: Changing Polymer pellets
• Activity 2: Hunting for polymer products
• Activity 3: Comparing Viscosity of polymer films
• Activity 4: Testing strength and stretch ability of polymer
films
• Design Project: Designing Humidity Sensor.
• Product Idea- Anti Fog By Polymer
3. INTRODUCTION
Polymers are composed of
long chain molecules
smaller units called
monomers.
e.g. many synthetic,
organic materials used as
plastics and resins.
4. ACTIVITIES
Activity 1:
Changing Polymer
pellets-
We experimented with
polymer polyacrylamide
pellets and learnt that
it has absorbing
property and can
absorb water 200 times
its size and is mainly
Activity 2: Hunting for
polymer products-
We researched and
studied different
polymers and their
properties and where
they can be used. Also,
we learnt different
polymers like
polyethylene (PE), poly
vinyl chloride(PVC) etc
Activity 3:
Comparing
Viscosity of
polymer films-
We learnt property of
viscosity of polymers
with methanol,
ethylene glycol and
glycerol. We also
learnt to prepare and
5. Design Project:
Designing
Humidity Sensor-
We designed
humidity sensor
from chemical
components like
polymers, 2-
butanone and cobalt
Activity 4:
Testing
strength and
stretch ability of
polymer films-
We also tested the
prepared films by
applying 200 g
weights to test
7. FINAL PROJECT:
ANTI FOG BY POLYMER
• Many car accidents can happen during high-
humidity weather.
• In Qatar, many months during the year,
drivers suffer from the foggy windows in
their cars, which lead to having many
accidents due to unclear view.
• Our project is a solution to the problems of
foggy windows using special type of polymer
material.
8. ANTI FOG BY POLYMER
HYPOTHESIS
• We are planning to place nano scale
hydrophobic structured polymers on car
windows to prevent moist formation on
the car windows. These polymers are
9. ANTI FOG BY POLYMER
METHODS AND MATERIALS
The materials used to complete the project are:
• Piece of glass
• Steam device
• Nano-scale hydrophobicity structures of
polymers
We are using the polymers by covering the frame
of car windows on side doors so that they absorb
the moist.
10. ANTI FOG BY POLYMER
RESULTS
OUR PRODUCT IDEA PREVENTS THE
FORMATION OF FOG ON THE SIDE
WINDOWS BY
• ALLOWING THE DRIVER TO SEE THE SIDE
WINDOWS CLEARLY IN THE FOG TIME AND
AVOID ACCIDENTS.
11. ANTI FOG BY POLYMER
RECOMMENDATIONS
• We need a very strong polymer to get a
good windows protector from the fog.
• Also our polymer can be recommended
for building windows where laborers are
employed to work from heights which is
risky and life-threatening.
12. CONCLUSIONS
• We performed activities with al-bairaq and
studied on polymers topic , which was
completely new topic for us.
• We also studied to design new product; find a
problem, find a solution to the problem,
design a product that will solve the problem,
test the product and evaluate it.
• We designed our own product idea.
