Done By: EINSTEINS Group
School Name: Qatar Secondary School for Girls
Food packaging module: Students learn about the many functions of food packaging, besides protecting foods. Also, they learn how food packaging materials affect the environment. Then they design their own environmentally friendly package for delivering a hot baked potato.
The aim of our work is to create a protective eco-friendly and cheap egg packaging.
Our project: other objectives are to make a large achievement in this domain to protect the nature and to reduce the wastes.

2. INTRODUCTION
Food Packaging
is science, art and technology of
enclosing or protecting products for
distribution, storage, sale, and use.
Packaging also refers to the
process of design, evaluation, and
production of packages
3. INVESTIGATING FOOD PACKAGING
ACTIVITY 1 : POPCORN PACKAGING
The bag is typically partially folded when it is placed in a
microwave, and inflates as a result
of steam pressure from the heated kernels.
The design of a microwave popcorn bag is specifically
keyed to avoid popped kernel scorching.
A subsector, usually a metalized film laminated onto the
paper of the bag, absorbs microwaves and concentrates
heat at the film interface, thus ensuring a heat
distribution focused on the hard-to-heat flavor coating
so that the unpopped kernels are evenly coated prior to
popping, thereby ensuring even flavor throughout the
product. Additionally some popcorn is flawed and will
not pop because of possible damage to the shell which
allows the steam to escape. These unpopped kernels are
known as "old maids" or "spinsters

15. Our Objective is to make a large achievement
in this domain to protect the nature and to
reduce our wastes .. We want to improve
ourselves by presenting our work and ideas ,
We aim to know a lot of information about food
packaging in order to help preserving food, as
its one of our major problems ..
16. DESIGNING A PROTECTIVE EGG PACKAGING :
First we will package the egg with an oval shaped
carton
After that we are going to put a padding at the bottom of
the egg’s carton which is a hydrogel material and
its called SODIUM POLYACRYLATE
then we will put the packaged eggs in this box and the box will always be with us
, we should not throw it cause every time we go to
the hyper market we have to put the eggs in it .. We call it
extra cheap protection!
17. AS A RESULT WHEN AN EGG IS BROKE THE SODIUM
POLY ACRYLATE WILL ABSORB THE YOLK AND THE
OTHER EGGS WILL BE PROTECTED FROM GETTING DIRTY
AND IT WON’T GET STUCK .. ALSO COVERING THE
EGGS WITH AN OVAL COVER WILL PROTECT IT FROM
BREAKING QUICKLY .. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOX
LIES IN CONTAINING AND COVERING THE WHOLE
EGGS.
In conclusion we think the box is going to be a big
factor of reducing wastes because instead of buying
an egg Carton every time and throw it we will use it
all the time as it will be an extra cheap Protection!
18. -What if the oval shaped carton made
wastes more than the normal trays due to
Its large number?
first the oval shaped cartons will be tiny so we
Won’t Need a lot of raw carton
Second its recyclable so it won’t impact negatively on
environment.

PROJECT STORY **
We didn’t work before on researches and inventions but now and
thanks to AL-Bairaq we gained skills and discovered skills
That we had but we didn’t know about it!
In AL-Bairaq workshops we knew how much damage
Caused by humans to us and our environment and the danger that
Surrounds us from all directions so we were thinking what can we do
About it we started to write down the conclusions from all the
Experiments we did and what are the ecofriendly materials we should
Use
That’s why we decided to make a beautiful product that has a new idea
And an attractive shape to seduce people as its cheap and ecofriendly.
20. *CONCLUSIONS*
We have learnt how to prepare a research that fits
the society. Also we knew how to take every single
point that serves our research into consideration .
We learnt how to achieve our purpose through
a successful team work and try our best to
create a creative project with perfect specifications
to attract everyone’s attention.
