2. Outline:
âą Introduction
âą Activity 1: Testing Different kinds of Ice
âą Activity 2: Hunting for Composite Materials
âą Activity 3: Exploring the Difference Between
Strength and Stiffness
âą Activity 4: Testing a Foam Composite for
Strength and Stiffness
âą Design Project: Designing a Fishing Pole
âą Product Idea: the composites shoes
3. Introduction:
Composite materials consist of two or more
materials which are physically and
mechanically distinct materials . However
, the overall properties of the resulting
materials are about the same as to those
of the constituents in isolation .
4. Activity 1: Testing Different
kinds of Ice
A.Pure ice
B.Ice mixed with
tissue
C.Ice mixed with tissue and paper
NOTEâS:In sample C we see itâs the strongest sample
5. Activity 2: Hunting for
Composite Materials
advantagecompositionObject name
Motorcycle
Note : when mixing materials , they improved the characteristics.
6. Activity 3: Exploring the
Difference Between Strength and
Stiffness
Strong â weak
Most flexible â least flexible :
Iron
Nilon
Plastic
Wood
Pasta
Note: we made an experiment to teas the breakability of these mateirals , we
found out that Pasta is the easiet to be broken while Iron was the hardest.
7. Exploring the Difference Between
Strength and Stiffness
Strongest to weakest :
Iron

8. Activity 4 : testing a foam composites
for strength and stiffness
We need :
plain foam
foam one side paper
foam tow side paper
We tried twisting foam , one without support , another was supported from
one side ,and the third is two sided supported. The first one , which was
without support was twisted easily , while twisting the third was harder. We
learned that we have to produce materials with high quality .

10. Design Project: Designing a
Fishing Pole
ï”reinforcement materials :
ï” 1- gauze bandages
ï” 2- coffee stirrers
ï” 3- metal wire
ï” 4- cotton
ï” 5- glow
ï” We used some materials to make a fishing tackle
11. Final Project:
(Title: The Composite Shoes)
ï” Introduction and Rationale:
We made the composites shoes to help blind people it is made of
sensors in order to make their mobility easier. The device can sense
different kinds of materials , radius of the
ï”wearer, and it aims to give blind people more confidence . In fact
, we believe that such project will help special needs people to
fully integrated in society , it is important to support the process
of special needs inclusion.
ï”. One of my relative is blind , that is what motivated me to come
up with this idea.
12. Objectives:
1-helping blind people to move independently
2- replacing the white cane
Scientific background:
Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies the
principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the
design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance
of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that
involves the design, production, and operation of machinery. It
is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.
The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of
core areas including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics,
materials science, structural analysis, and electricity.
13. The Composite Shoes
Hypothesis:
ï” Title of the project : sensor shoes for blind
ï” Hypothesis :this device will enhance the life of
blind and give them more independence and
flexibility
14. The Composite Shoes
Methods and Materials
What is the Method used to perform your project idea?
In this project we build a Three- dimensional configuration
To show the main idea of this device.
15. Results:
ï” This shoes with sensors will allow blind people to walk
without a cane.
ï” The shoes vibrate when the wearer is closed to an
object
ï” Blind people will find using this shoes more comfortable
than using the white cane.
ï” Blind people will become more independent and
confident.
16. Recommendations:
ï” We recommend to let some blind people try this shoes
and then based on their feedbacks , we can add more
features to this device.
ï” This shoes should be used in schools of blind companied
with training.
17. Conclusions
(Overall of the whole module)
Through participation in Al Bairaq project we learned the
different application of composite material , and it is
importance in developing materials that are stronger,
lighter, or less expensive when compared to traditional
materials
18. Acknowledgment
