Introduction
The Digital Republic has been a great help for students, has broken technological
barriers and also given the opportunity to children who never imagined they could
have access to technology.
It is extremely important that as future teachers we know the importance and good
use of the Digital Republic.
In this module we have worked on several themes based on this topic, below is a
compilation of the themes worked on.

Panel on Multiculturalism and Social Media and their Impact on Education.
Moderator: Good morning everyone! Welcome to our panel where we will talk with
our experts the impact of multiculturalism and social media on education. These
issues are very important for today's society because the virtual world has become
part of our daily life which leads us to know new cultures, people who in one way or
another teach us different things and even more, since the Dominican Republic
has allowed many foreigners to integrate into the classrooms where our children
receive quality education and it is important that they interact with people from
abroad as they will enrich themselves with things they have never known in our
culture, and they too they would make them known about our culture that they
have never known in their country and through social networks multiculturalism will
expand and good relationships will be achieved.
The mechanism for this panel is as follow:
1. Each member will have a space to talk of about 5 minutes.
2. After the participation of the panelists we will ask specific questions about the
topics discussed.
3. The use of cell phones, laptop or any other electronic devices during the panel is
prohibited.
- After establishing the rules we can start this panel with multiculturality and its
impact on social media. Now is time of Mr. Slim.
Mr. Felip.: Good afternoon distinguished people, multiculturality in the educational
institutions cannot be understood like a simple performance to facilitate the social
or school integration of students from another cultural origin; it is not only the
presentation of alternative didactic strategies to stimulate demotivated students; it
is not only to give the appropriate educational tools to each academic singular
reality; the multiculturalism must be understood as the acceptance of plural
realities. It is to introduce a coexistence of plural realities that enrich the
3
educational institution and the classroom with the differences, similarities and the
necessities of the pupils. To educate in the multiculturalism it is necessary to
change the faculty’s attitudes and the institution school, to change the relationships
that take place in it. It is necessary to change the institutionalized educational
process. The school should not assume a model of cultural understanding or of
cultural competition but a model of cultural emancipation and social reconstruction
where the culture of the minorities is a positive value and the multicultural
education promotes the cultural emancipation and the social improvement of the
pupil increasing its self-concept and expectations, breaking the circle of poverty
and lack of opportunities that, sometimes wraps those minorities. The
multiculturalism should not only be introduced through the transmission of the
contents in the classrooms like a simple informative reinforcement, by means of
educational techniques, but rather we should introduce it in the organization
structures and not to reduce the multiculturalism to the mere educational
intervention but leaving the walls of the classrooms and educational institutions to
collaborate or to assume protagonist in other social activities.
Moderator: Thanks, now we are going to listen to Mr. Jones in terms of social
media and their impact on education, a distinguished guest tells us about this topic:
Mr. Jones: Good afternoon dear audience, it is a pleasure for me to be with you in
this panel with this topic. I can tell you that social media allow individuals to
interact. In addition, they allow teachers and students to be in constant
communication.
Similarly, social media create an opportunity for learning, lifelong learning and
professional development, as well as an increasingly frequent scenario for
exchanging experiences, news and personal contact, in a world undergoing an
accelerated process of changes and transformations.
The social networks for being interactive tools help effectively in the teaching-
learning process; the student through these tools achieves meaningful learning,
thus acquiring capabilities that make it more autonomous. In determining skills and
competences, it acquires an important role, the search for information, the critical
4
analysis, the resolution of problems, the personal elaboration of functional
knowledge, the argumentation of one's opinions, the affective balance, the
teamwork, the self-learning and adaptation to change, creative and innovative
attitude, initiative and perseverance.
It would be important to detail the benefits and positive aspects of the use of social
media in current education.
Both teachers and students can benefit from the possibilities that social media
grant to teachers. They can facilitate their work as teachers and from the point of
view of the students, they can facilitate the learning process. They allow the
teacher to teach students to learn for themselves. Nowadays, the trainer, while
teaching, must act as a guide for students to discover new sources of learning by
hand online. Among these we can mention they help develop digital and
technological skills so necessary to operate in companies or in their own ventures
or professions. Using social networks and blogs fosters the value of sharing and
collaborating. In this way, not only does the teacher transmit knowledge, but it also
favors collaboration between people. They promote awareness of the importance
of socializing, working in teams, creating their own online image and forming their
own opinion and expressing it freely.
Moderator: Excellent dear Mr. Jones, now let's start with the round of questions,
Mr. Felip can tell us, ¿Can it affect the use of social networks in learning? If the
answer is Yes, Could you please let us know how?
Mr. Felip: of course, this system may affect the student's learning as if we give it
an inappropriate use, and we use social networks and the internet in different
interests that are not related in the field of study this could be something addictive
which may be that the student is distracted in other things either in games and
things that go according to what you want to learn, there are many distractions that
could cause learning distractions.
5
Moderator: Excellent response. Mr. Jones you can list some benefits of using
social networks:
Mr. Jones: Among the benefits of using social networks in the area of education,
we find the following:
• It allows teachers to teach the student to learn for themselves, acting only as a
guide in learning.
• They are a means of communication, allowing adolescents who are very
familiar with them, to feel more comfortable in their relationships with teachers.
But it not only serves to communicate between students and teachers of the
same center, but it can also help them to contact experts from other subjects or
students from other centers.
Moderator: Excellent, although I am not an expert on the subject but I can really
say that networks have become a basic tool for education today, making
multiculturalism grow more. We always hear that multiculturalism is important in
education, Mr. Felip could tell us why?
Mr. Felip: In this sense, multicultural education becomes very important, since it
represents a positive assessment of diversity and respect for people. Each human
being is a transmitter of their culture, which is expressed as part of their identity.
Moderator: Education is multicultural; there is no doubt about that. To continue with
our interesting panel of experts I would like to ask: What encourages students to
use social media?
Mr. Jones: The use of social media encourages the students to promotes the
value of sharing and collaborating. In this way, not only the teacher expresses
his/her knowledge, but cooperation between groups of people is favored.
Moderator: Thank you very much for your valuable contributions. We also thank
the public for being listening this audio-panel. Good afternoon and see you soon.

disadvantages
 Interest in the study may end because of the curiosity in exploring other
websites that have nothing to do with academic activities. Especially with
students who are more dispersed when concentrating.
 Not knowing search the web and retain as valid knowledge are unreliable.
 Consistent use of digital tools helps students isolate themselves and do not
encourage their communication skills.

MODULE III:
The results and interpretation
Questionnaire conducted a high school student about Republic
Digital
Questions: What is the digital republic?
Student: Well for me it is a project that seeks to give the Dominican Republic
access to technology.
Interpretation: I agree with you, since this project seeks to guarantee the access
of Dominicans to information and communication technologies.
Questions: What has been the impact of the digital republic on school students in
the Dominican Republic?
Student: Very good because as students we could have access to computers and
internet.
Interpretation: We could also add that this plan allows students to acquire the
necessary skills to function in everyday life, but they must also be used correctly.
Questions: Do you think that digital culture has expanded in our country? Justify
your answer.
Student: I think so, because regardless of where the student is, he now has
access to technology.
Interpretation: That's right, because thanks to technology, users do not have to go
to a government office to make their payments or transmit a document.
Questions: In your view, what is the goal of the digital republic?
Student: I think everyone is focused on what we have a right to digital, regardless
of our social status.
Interpretation: Also one of the main objectives is to reduce the digital divide and
provide better services to citizens.
Questions: Can you tell me some of the benefits for society?
Student: yes, it helps us to have the fastest information, to learn about other
cultures.
Interpretation: In addition to that, as we can see with the digital republic, there are
improvements for all Dominicans in almost all aspects of daily life, in addition to the
12
multiple benefits it offers which contributes to increasing competitiveness as a
country and improving its economy.
Questions: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the digital republic in
education?
Student: Well, for me the advantages are:
Advantage
• It allows us to more easily investigate and fulfill our obligations,
• Work in groups without moving.
• The tasks related to the use of the computer allow the student to obtain a high
degree of interdisciplinary, since they allow various types of information
processing.
Interpretation: Other advantages are as follows:
- Expand knowledge, before technology, students were only exposed to the
knowledge they obtained from teachers and official textbooks. Now
technology allows you to expand that knowledge almost infinitely and have
access to more sources that enrich any subject.
- Classroom Fun, Technology allows the use of audiovisual resources that
can help make learning more interactive and fun.
- Quick information,
Disadvantages
• Sometimes we entertain ourselves with other things when we should be studying.
• There are students who do not know how to use computers correctly.
• We spend more time alone because there is no longer much need to do things in
groups.
Interviewer Thank you very much for your time, spend a happy afternoon.
Interpretation: Other Disadvantages are as follows:
- High costs, the initial acquisition cost of the computer equipment and software
necessary for the effective implementation of the technology in schools and
colleges is very high.
13
-Inefficient and little diligent students, Over time it has become a very common
practice among students to take the first paragraph of Wikipedia as their sole
source of information.
Also the use of the web to find solutions has mathematical problems, instead of
solving them in the traditional way; it reduces the ability to learn.
-Wrong information, on the web there are many pages that have incorrect information,
which has been copied and pasted from another site without having done a prior check on
the authenticity of the information.
There are also sites that generate fake news for general traffic or trend on a topic
in social networks.
Questions: Thank you very much for your time, spend happy afternoon
Questionnaire conducted a high school teacher about Republic
Digital
Questions: What is the digital republic?
Teacher: It is a government project that seeks to guarantee access of Dominicans
to information technology and communication, with the aim of bridging the digital
divide and provide better services to citizens.
Interpretation: I agree with your answer, we can also say that the digital republic

impact has caused a kind of revolution in economics, politics, society and culture,
which profoundly transformed the ways of producing wealth, to interact socially
defined identities and produce and circulate knowledge.
Interpretation: We can add a great contribution that has impacted the digital
republic and that is that it has contributed to the development of the educational
processes of the students, since through this they have been able to integrate
updated content, which before, they did not have access to computers or the
Internet, but thanks to this impact, students are more easily integrated into topics
never seen before.
14
Questions: Do you think that digital culture has expanded in our country? Justify

Physicians, which allows citizens to book their consultation via telephone in
hospitals, can also request medical appointments through the internet and the 911
system is also part of the digital republic
Questions: Could you tell me what are the axes that make up the digital republic?

different research medium where it also serves them of guidance as a teacher
through the internet.
Questions: What things have transformed the digital republic?
Teacher: Have transformed the thinking of today, they have generated new forms
of life. So very special with the use of the internet. Such transformation
encompasses all the, labor, and especially, social familiar surroundings. For a vast
majority of people life is inconceivable without being connected to the Internet.
However, a large number of people who do not have access to this; what today is
called digital divide.
Interpretation: I totally agree with your contribution, the digital republic has
completely transformed the way of life of our professors, students and public
services; the government of the Dominican Republic has implemented the digital
republic an unforgettable contribution for us Dominicans.
Questions: What are the advantages and disadvantages of digital republic in
education?
Teacher: Many are, but I will mention some
16
Advantage
 With digital students are more motivated when investigating.
 Students can interact and share experiences with others.
 Several students lose their fear of the matters that are not to their liking.
 Tasks involving the use of the computer allow the student to obtain a high
degree of interdisciplinary, as they allow various types of information

encourage their communication skills.
 Given the amount of information and immediacy with which it is, young
people can feel saturated and in many cases resolved "cut and paste"
information without processing.
Interpretation: In addition to those advantages and disadvantages that have been
mentioned to us, we can also mention knowledge sharing, fun in the classrooms,
the classes become more fun with the audiovisual media that it provides, it
prepares the students for the future and in the disadvantages it produces a waste
of time since students tend to neglect the issues of concern for others who do not
have to do and who attract a lot of attention.

  • 3. 1 Introduction The Digital Republic has been a great help for students, has broken technological barriers and also given the opportunity to children who never imagined they could have access to technology. It is extremely important that as future teachers we know the importance and good use of the Digital Republic. In this module we have worked on several themes based on this topic, below is a compilation of the themes worked on.
  • 4. 2 The script of the audio Panel on Multiculturalism and Social Media and their Impact on Education. Moderator: Good morning everyone! Welcome to our panel where we will talk with our experts the impact of multiculturalism and social media on education. These issues are very important for today's society because the virtual world has become part of our daily life which leads us to know new cultures, people who in one way or another teach us different things and even more, since the Dominican Republic has allowed many foreigners to integrate into the classrooms where our children receive quality education and it is important that they interact with people from abroad as they will enrich themselves with things they have never known in our culture, and they too they would make them known about our culture that they have never known in their country and through social networks multiculturalism will expand and good relationships will be achieved. The mechanism for this panel is as follow: 1. Each member will have a space to talk of about 5 minutes. 2. After the participation of the panelists we will ask specific questions about the topics discussed. 3. The use of cell phones, laptop or any other electronic devices during the panel is prohibited. - After establishing the rules we can start this panel with multiculturality and its impact on social media. Now is time of Mr. Slim. Mr. Felip.: Good afternoon distinguished people, multiculturality in the educational institutions cannot be understood like a simple performance to facilitate the social or school integration of students from another cultural origin; it is not only the presentation of alternative didactic strategies to stimulate demotivated students; it is not only to give the appropriate educational tools to each academic singular reality; the multiculturalism must be understood as the acceptance of plural realities. It is to introduce a coexistence of plural realities that enrich the
  • 5. 3 educational institution and the classroom with the differences, similarities and the necessities of the pupils. To educate in the multiculturalism it is necessary to change the faculty’s attitudes and the institution school, to change the relationships that take place in it. It is necessary to change the institutionalized educational process. The school should not assume a model of cultural understanding or of cultural competition but a model of cultural emancipation and social reconstruction where the culture of the minorities is a positive value and the multicultural education promotes the cultural emancipation and the social improvement of the pupil increasing its self-concept and expectations, breaking the circle of poverty and lack of opportunities that, sometimes wraps those minorities. The multiculturalism should not only be introduced through the transmission of the contents in the classrooms like a simple informative reinforcement, by means of educational techniques, but rather we should introduce it in the organization structures and not to reduce the multiculturalism to the mere educational intervention but leaving the walls of the classrooms and educational institutions to collaborate or to assume protagonist in other social activities. Moderator: Thanks, now we are going to listen to Mr. Jones in terms of social media and their impact on education, a distinguished guest tells us about this topic: Mr. Jones: Good afternoon dear audience, it is a pleasure for me to be with you in this panel with this topic. I can tell you that social media allow individuals to interact. In addition, they allow teachers and students to be in constant communication. Similarly, social media create an opportunity for learning, lifelong learning and professional development, as well as an increasingly frequent scenario for exchanging experiences, news and personal contact, in a world undergoing an accelerated process of changes and transformations. The social networks for being interactive tools help effectively in the teaching- learning process; the student through these tools achieves meaningful learning, thus acquiring capabilities that make it more autonomous. In determining skills and competences, it acquires an important role, the search for information, the critical
  • 6. 4 analysis, the resolution of problems, the personal elaboration of functional knowledge, the argumentation of one's opinions, the affective balance, the teamwork, the self-learning and adaptation to change, creative and innovative attitude, initiative and perseverance. It would be important to detail the benefits and positive aspects of the use of social media in current education. Both teachers and students can benefit from the possibilities that social media grant to teachers. They can facilitate their work as teachers and from the point of view of the students, they can facilitate the learning process. They allow the teacher to teach students to learn for themselves. Nowadays, the trainer, while teaching, must act as a guide for students to discover new sources of learning by hand online. Among these we can mention they help develop digital and technological skills so necessary to operate in companies or in their own ventures or professions. Using social networks and blogs fosters the value of sharing and collaborating. In this way, not only does the teacher transmit knowledge, but it also favors collaboration between people. They promote awareness of the importance of socializing, working in teams, creating their own online image and forming their own opinion and expressing it freely. Moderator: Excellent dear Mr. Jones, now let's start with the round of questions, Mr. Felip can tell us, ¿Can it affect the use of social networks in learning? If the answer is Yes, Could you please let us know how? Mr. Felip: of course, this system may affect the student's learning as if we give it an inappropriate use, and we use social networks and the internet in different interests that are not related in the field of study this could be something addictive which may be that the student is distracted in other things either in games and things that go according to what you want to learn, there are many distractions that could cause learning distractions.
  • 7. 5 Moderator: Excellent response. Mr. Jones you can list some benefits of using social networks: Mr. Jones: Among the benefits of using social networks in the area of education, we find the following: • It allows teachers to teach the student to learn for themselves, acting only as a guide in learning. • They are a means of communication, allowing adolescents who are very familiar with them, to feel more comfortable in their relationships with teachers. But it not only serves to communicate between students and teachers of the same center, but it can also help them to contact experts from other subjects or students from other centers. Moderator: Excellent, although I am not an expert on the subject but I can really say that networks have become a basic tool for education today, making multiculturalism grow more. We always hear that multiculturalism is important in education, Mr. Felip could tell us why? Mr. Felip: In this sense, multicultural education becomes very important, since it represents a positive assessment of diversity and respect for people. Each human being is a transmitter of their culture, which is expressed as part of their identity. Moderator: Education is multicultural; there is no doubt about that. To continue with our interesting panel of experts I would like to ask: What encourages students to use social media? Mr. Jones: The use of social media encourages the students to promotes the value of sharing and collaborating. In this way, not only the teacher expresses his/her knowledge, but cooperation between groups of people is favored. Moderator: Thank you very much for your valuable contributions. We also thank the public for being listening this audio-panel. Good afternoon and see you soon.
