Dear Members,
I hear the Bowls Club Annual Dinner and Prize Giving went well on Saturday evening and the
Private Birthday Tea on Sunday too. CYC do consider it a compliment that local Clubs and
residents wish to use our Clubhouse to hold their special functions; we really do have a great
asset in the building! The Ladies of Liberty are tucking in to their meal as I speak.
If you have a special event in 2018, why not let us give you a quote on cost!
We have got another exciting weekend coming up, with Hannah Stodel giving a talk on Friday
evening and the Cadets celebrating with the BSC a fantastic season on the water on Saturday
evening. We will also be cooking a roast on Sunday, so be sure to book!

3. VOLUNTEERS FOR JANUARY SHUTDOWN
Thanks to those who have volunteered so far, we are still on the lookout for more help! Please
contact Emma or Rick Wick if you any time to spare. Volunteers will be needed both during the week
and at weekends, if we are to get a fast turn- around. Please don’t be shy about helping out!
First Aid Course
The First Aid course was well received last Friday, with 12 participants getting involved. A big
thank you to Brian from the RYA for running the course for us and to Jane Long for organising it.
We will soon be asking for names of people who may be interested in taking part next year.
SECURITY
As of today, there is a combination lock to gain entry to the CYC jetty. Steve Scales will unlock this in
the morning and lock again in the evening. A separate email will be circulated with the code.
Ladies Who Launch
Next season the Sonata fleet will be available, on a series of Thursday mornings, to 'Ladies Who
Launch'. These sessions, for ladies of all ages, will be intended to develop boat handling and sailing
skills, and most importantly have some fun, both on and off the water. We will then aim to finish
the session in the club with a chat over a coffee or glass of wine and maybe a spot of lunch.
Over the next few weeks we will be arranging a get together to help design a schedule that will
hopefully hit the spot. Suggestions so far include; learning how to pick up a buoy, park the darn
thing, and sail a straight course! If you have any ideas for things you'd like included, or just to
register your interest, then please contact Jane Long on janehutleylong@hotmail.co.uk.
Message from Team Sonata
Any Old Iron, Any Old Iron?
One of the Club's Sonata trailers is now so corroded it needs rebuilding.
Do you have, tucked away behind your shed, (in case it comes in handy) any ‘H’ or ‘C’ section 4”- 6”
(100mm – 150mm) RSJs or any heavy weight angle iron that you would donate to a good cause?
Failing that, a complete trailer you could donate ?
Please contact the CYC office and we will arrange collection. Thank you!
The Sonata Team.

Racing Coach Level 2 Course
We are now working with the RYA to improve the skill set of all those who support our Cadet
Programme. As such we are looking for 6 volunteers to participate in a 2-3 day intensive course at
the beginning of next season. The aim being to further improve our ability to teach those learning to
sail dinghies, both on Saturday Mornings and in Cadet Activity Week. If you would like to apply to
participate in the fantastic opportunity please contact either of the following for more details:
