the investment to increase availability of ejournals via
OpenAthens in 2014-15

The number actively using their
account dipped slightly which
was disappointing given
investment in eresources
300+ staff received
information skills training at
one of over 50 sessions
Feedback was highly positive
for these courses
Book lending remained close
to 19,000 transactions
NHS staff requests for new
book titles were purchased
throughout the year
The number of new library members was
close to a thousand
We have simplified joining which should
support uptake. Changes to induction
processes mean not all junior medical staff
complete registration for physical access
Progress with plans
During the course of the year we:
• Prepared a KCH wide Library & Knowledge Services Strategy to
more closely align work with the PRUH LKS Team
• Created an NHS functional role to provide additional capacity
and focus on the NHS within the Library Services team
• Carried out our biannual user survey
• Reviewed our information skills training programme shifting
delivery to the Learning & Skills team. This will drive
improvements to quality by developing deeper expertise
• Extended opening hours with 24/7 access to the full library
from January onwards
• The Cloud was introduced to offer high quality guest wifi
