Project CMA March Release – 2014
Customer SCOTTISH WATER
Role Developer
Period 31/12/2013 – 28/03/2014 - 03 Months
Technical Skills Informatica, Oracle
Description The Central Market Agency (CMA) is responsible for administering the Business
Retail Water Market in Scotland. With respect to administering changes to the
Market the CMA typically delivers two Software Releases each year to the CMA
Central Systems. These Software Releases deliver fixes to the Central Systems
software, enhancements to the Central System software or a combination of
both. Approved Changes to the Market, and hence the Central Systems Software,
are derived from Change Proposals raised by the CMA and its Service Providers,
Market Participants or the Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS). A
CMA Software Release Project is generally made up of a number of Approved
Changes
The objectives of the project are to enable SW to develop the new Informatica mapping
for the new transaction that has to be send to CMA via the BPEL service also for the
responses that too be received from CMA.
• Design the end to end ETL process for the new transaction to be submitted to
CMA as well for the new responses that has to be received from CMA
• Also analysis the existing transaction/ responses that has to be changed as part
of the release and do the impact analysis with the various projects.
• Develop the new web service for the new transaction and responses and
changes the existing web service if required.
• Develop the Informatica mapping as part of the requirement and do the end to
end testing
• Also worked on Performance tuning of the ETL jobs and the SQL query.
Project SEPA REPORTING PROJECT
Customer SCOTTISH WATER
Role Developer
Period 01/03/2013 – 31/12/2013 - 10 Months
Technical Skills Informatica, Oracle
Description Scottish water is the only water supplier company in Scotland. Hence there is a chance
to be behaved as monopoly about the charge for the water connection, sewerage
connection from the customer. Hence there is a regulatory body named SEPA (Scottish
environment protection agency) to whom Scottish water has to take the approval for any
change. Also to monitor whether the water is supplied to the customer properly or not
they need daily reports on that.
Earlier this was developed but due to various reason like broken connection between the
RADWIN server where the reading value for each device use to present for a day and
Open enterprise who is to process the data to make it available for the integration team
to consume and process the data to load to MART.
To overcome the previously faced issue we have re-designed the flow and load it to the
mart.
4. The objectives of the project are to enable SW to provide the correct report to SEPA for
the daily abstraction and compensation and generate the yearly report on top of the mart
rather than preparing it manually
SEPA MART development – Develop many mapping to process the data from the
various source system from where we used to get reading value for the various device
such as reservoir height, daily volume and load to the MART for the reporting tool to
consume.
• Implemented end to end re design from the existing SEPA mart to overcome the
hurdle and problem faced earlier.
• Worked on Performance tuning of the ETL jobs and the SQL query.
Project MTN – EDW Re Design
Customer MTN Pty. Ltd – South Africa
Role Developer
Period 03/10/2011 to 21/02/2013 - 16.9 Months
Technical Skills Informatica, Unix, Oracle
Description From 2002-2003 an EDW was developed at MTN SA to act as a common source for
reporting and analysis information. It has had mixed success over the years and the
solution has struggled to deal with changing operational systems, an almost exponential
increase in data volumes (required to service all reporting including transactional
operational reporting) and a changing business environment.
At this point in time the EDW is unsustainable in terms of its architecture, data model
and the fact that its use does not adhere to best practice in terms of the Data
Warehouse practices for the Telecommunications industry. As a result, a multitude of
tactical data repositories and ad hoc operational systems reports are in use in an
attempt to fill the void.
The current EDW is not fit for purpose and cannot be used as a trusted corporate source
of reporting and analytical information. Data quality, reliability and integrity have been
highlighted as key issues with the EDW with problems relating to the reconciliation of
data to source operational systems.
Hence MTN has taken the initiative of redesigning the EDW adhering to the best
practises and industry standard KPIs.
The objectives of the project are to enable MTN SA to:
• Report consistently using trusted data in a timely manner where the reports are
error free
• Leverage MTN data for specific business initiatives to improve business
performance
• Make fact-based decisions to answer tactical or strategic business questions as
they arise
• Ensure consistent information interpretation and usage
• Access information easily without reliance on key individuals
• Provide a flexible and extensible technical solution and robust processes to
manage data.
