3. 4Four custom wig
styles you've got to
try this summer
Summer is here and it's time to let your hair
down! But, when the temperatures soar and
each strand adds another degree of heat, it can
be hard to think of other styles to try. There's
beaches to tan on, pools to splash in, and
much deserved vacation destinations to
experience. Many of us are used to wearing our
wigs in one style--straight & down. This
summer try out these 4 super easy styles:
ponytails, braids, pulled back & buns.

STYLES FOR WIGS

Ponytails
Yes, ladies. You
absolutely can wear your
hair up with a wig.
You can certainly wear varying densities in a
ponytail as long as you have a hairband or
some sort of closure big enough to hold it, I
recommend using a lighter-weight density
wig when wearing your hair up.
Braids
Of course, hand made
braid wigs are the best
because you can get
them custom made for
you

durability so nothing should be done to
jeopardize that.

Have Wig, Will Travel – Tips For Packing &
Travelling With Your Wig
Sometimes a vacation is exactly what the doctor
ordered, especially when you need a little down time
to take your mind off the stress of undergoing
chemotherapy treatments. Since this time is all about
relaxation, traveling with your wig shouldn’t be
complicated, and following these tips will make sure
your wig looks good on the go with as little fuss as
possible.
Pack Wigs Inside Out — Keep the delicate strands of
your wig safe from friction (which can cause frizz), as
well as dust and debris, by turning it inside out before
placing it in your luggage. You can also pack it in a
zippered plastic bag to keep it free of moisture, or if
you have extra room, a shoe box, which will help
prevent it from being crushed.
Pick Up A Plastic Wig Stand — One of the best ways
to keep a wig looking beautiful is to store it on a wig
stand, however, plastic stands are usually too large to
pack in your luggage. Instead, pick up a portable wig
stand for use in your hotel room to help reduce the
amount of daily maintenance your hair piece needs
away from home.

7. Pack An Extra Cap – Wig caps work wonders
to keep your hair in place but they snag easily,
especially when you are on the go. If possible,
carry one or two extra, and keep a small,
travel-sized bottle of baby powder on hand to
keep your scalp cool and dry, especially in hot
weather.
With a little careful planning when traveling
with your wig, the only “fly aways” you’ll have
to worry about will involve you stepping on a
plane. Bon voyage!

WORK ON PERSONAL
PROJECTS.
HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF
WHAT YOU WANT.
If you're undecided on which path
to take, try several paths and then
decide which one is the best fit.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “All
life is an experiment. The more
experiments you make the better.”
Simeon Kondev once said, “I feel like
every project I work on is a dream
project, so long as I am learning.”
“It's not hard to decide what you
want your life to be about.
What's hard, she said, is figuring
out what you're willing to give
up in order to do the things
you really care about.”

Even under daily care, wigs
require special hair care
products. These often aren’t
available in the average store.
Fill travel sized containers with

maintenance products.
Be Prepared For Any Weather
– To save yourself from
running around last minute
looking for a quick fix, carry
everything you may need so
you never find yourself with
out. Bring along your wig
comb, brush, and spray, as you
should never borrow someone
else’s. And check the weather
before you leave, especially for
locales where there might be
high wind or bright sun. You’ll
need a wide-brimmed hat,
scarves or wig clips to keep
your hair piece in place.

11. WHY HAIR IS HERS
TO MOLD
A S H O R T A U T O - B I O G R A P H Y O F E M A , F O U N D E R
O F X & O H A I R
I was probably 15 when I made my first wig. It wasn’t for me;
it was for my grandmother. She looked like Elizabeth Taylor
in her role as Cleopatra. My grandmother's hair was thin and
frail, and she always insisted she looked better in a wig. I
agreed, and I made all her wigs from then on. Her favorite
style was shoulder-length, dark brown hair with super thick
bangs in the front. She told me this particular style had the
power to give her back her l’enfance, which is French for her
childhood. I've always admired my grandmother’s courage
and beauty. She lived her life as a champion, not a victim.
When she was only 18, she emigrated on her own to Canada,
the same move I would make four decades later.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always
loved hair. I was obsessed with combing my
doll’s hair. I braided it, twisted it, and I
eventually cut it all off. I threw the doll away
when she had no more hair, there wasn’t
anything left for me to do! So, I pestered my
mother to get me a new doll, she finally gave in
and got me a “my size” doll. Her hair was
longer than mine and I was in heaven.
PAGE 11 INTERVIEWHAIR ARTIST REVIEW
Years went by, I got older and life became more complicated.
Listening to other people tell me what to do with my life, I lost
touch with myself. "Go to college!" "Get married!" "Start a
family!” The pressure I faced was intense! The only thing I
would find myself coming back to was hair. So I satisfied
myself by making all of my own wigs and my friend's wigs
—as a hobby. I lost the courage to focus on what I loved, but
I never stopped learning more about hair. I secretly dreamed,
one day I would be a famous wig-maker.
Fast forward to 2014. Broke & frustrated, I thought to myself,
"What's the one thing I do every day that I actually enjoy?"
The answer, of course, was hair. I decided I would work
towards my dream wholeheartedly. I had very little to lose
and from that point, I learned even more about hair. From it’s
molecular structure to its heat tolerance to which celebrity
had the best hair. It’s the one thing I can not live without. I
can look at a woman and know her intimately through her
hair. Is she healthy? Is she happy? Has she given up? Hair
says so much about a woman, it’s surprising more women
don’t realize it.
12. www.xenohair.com
In building X & O Hair, I decided to
focus on designing & customizing
wigs. I remembered how important
it was for me to get the bangs just
right on my grandmother’s wigs all
those years ago. I also remember
how much I personally didn’t care
for bangs. I liked to make my own
wigs long and wavy with a hint of
colour. As I made more wigs, each
woman would request something
totally unique. She wanted her wig
to reflect her own personality, her
likes, and what her hair means to
her.
Designing a wig is very much like
painting a portrait. The design
process begins as soon as I meet
the woman. I take in details like the
subtleties of her personality, her
facial features, even her tone of
voice. As the process goes on, I
learn more about her lifestyle, her
dreams and her fears. It’s a very
intimate experience. “Once I make a
wig for a woman, I will know her in a
way others may never know.” While
the process is labor intensive, the
experience we share, the
transformative power of each wig I
design—makes it all worth it.
Yours truly,
