Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give a brief overview of SAP. In this presentation I will talk about what it means to be a best run business. About SAPâs Intelligent Enterprise strategy. And about the impact that SAP and its customers have on the world.
We all know that everything â communities, economies, industries, technologies â is changing faster than ever. It will never change this slowly again.
New business models â from concierge services to the sharing economy â are emerging to disrupt entire industries.
And finally, the core values of an increasingly diverse workforce â traditional dimensions such as age, gender, and ethnicity as well as new dimensions like neurodiversity (autism, for example) â are forcing companies to reconsider how they engage their employees with a purpose greater than growing the bottom line.
Best-run businesses put the customer at the heart of their enterprise, and understand that the dynamic between buyer and seller, producer, and consumer, is fluid. They prize engagement over transactions because they recognize that real growth can only come when their customers become true advocates.
SAP has the strategy to help businesses run at their best. We enable the Intelligent Enterprise.
Becoming an intelligent enterprise is transformative, in many ways. We believe three of the most critical outcomes are redefining the end-to end customer experience, delivering a step-change in productivity, and transforming workforce engagement.
So, you can deliver a next-generation customer experience in a world of disruption. You can create maximum cost synergies to fund innovation. And you can better engage your employees, to attract and retain top talent.
SAP will provide three essential components to help your business achieve these goals: an intelligent suite, a digital platform, and intelligent technologies. Letâs look at these in a little more detail.
We will offer an Intelligent Suite of applications for every line of business: Customer Experience, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Digital Core, People Engagement, and Network & Spend Management. We will provide a unified user experience and seamless integration across the portfolio. We will enable you to consume individual modules at your own pace.
The data generated from these applications will then be managed and orchestrated by our Digital Platform. With data management, you can tap into new sources of data within your business and across value chains to derive deep and holistic insights in real-time. With the cloud platform, you have the glue to securely connect solutions, extend them, and reuse common services.
The intelligent suite and digital platform will be embedded with Intelligent Technologies such as Machine Learning, Internet of Things, and Advanced Analytics. These technologies can automatically detect patterns in the data, recommend the best course of action, and optimize workflow. For customers who want to innovate even further, we offer industry accelerators and open innovation services, which apply design thinking methodologies to identify new business models.
A key part of this strategy is learning. The data captured as people use the intelligent suite helps to continuously improve the intelligence of the overall system â in a virtuous cycle. So, best run businesses can keep getting better.

We work with over 18,000 partners, and share our expertise in 25 unique industries. We reported over 23 billion euro in revenue in 2017, and invested more than 3.3 billion of that in research and development (R&D).
As a testament to our success, we have a large global customer base with more than 400,000 customers. While most people know us because we serve 92% of the Forbes Global 2000 companies, 80% of our customers are actually small and midsize enterprises. With this many customers, itâs easy to see how more than three-quarters of the worldâs transaction revenue flows through SAP systems. Our customers produce most of the worldâs food. Most of the worldâs medical devices. I could share hundreds more statistics, covering every industry â manufacturing, energy, services, government, and more. It is this large customer base that gives SAP the chance for us to fulfill our purpose. When we help our customers to become best-run businesses we really help the world run better and improve peopleâs lives.
Part of why weâre able to help our customers accelerate value creation is that we know what the best practices are today and the next practices of tomorrow. More importantly, weâve got 46 years of deep expertise that allows us to understand the business context of data. Very few competitors can make that same claim. In addition to industry-wide algorithms, we can also help individual customers make sense of their unique combination of data and translate that into optimal performance for their own business.
SAP is also transforming itself to be an Intelligent Enterprise. Here are the business benefits we expect to see from key programs across our organization. For all of this, SAP runs SAP.
