1. THE CITY OF
STEI

2.  The city of Stei is located on the right bank of
the Black River in one of the beautiful regions
from Romania ,Crisana.
 The city covers an area of 700 hectares being
surrounded by villages of Petrileni,
Ghighiseni, Hotarel and Lunca

3.  The town was born in 1956 on the place
where the village of the same name was
located
 By a decree in January 1956 the village of Stei
became a city .Two years later ,in 1958 the
Gheorghe Gherghiu-Dej gouvernment gave
its the name of “Dr. Petru Groza” and in 1996
he returned to the old name, Stei .

10.  Being in an impressive geographical area, the
town of Stei is surrounded by a lot of
wonderful landscapes and tourist attractions.
Here,the people are very welcoming and
friendly with tourist who love Romania and
the beauty of this country
 The most famous tourist atractions in the Stei
area are : Bear Cave (Chiscau ), Codru-Moma
Mountains ,Apuseni Mountains (Vartop,
Arieseni )

14.  The prosperity of the city is due to the mining
basin of Baita village.
 due to uranium and metals, the Russians had
an important point of ore collection during
the SecondWorld War at Baita village and
Stei

16. Bear Cave –Chiscau
 The cave is a commercial tourist attraction and
has attracted people from all over the world
since it was opened in July 1980. It consists of
three galleries, one on top of the other, of which
only the top one has been prepared as a show
cave .The two lower galleries are reserved for
scientific research.The cave shows a stalactite
world that is impressive in its beauty and variety
of shapes. However, the highlight of every tour is
a visit to a fossilized skeleton of a cave bear (
Ursus spelaeus ).This skeleton is completely
preserved and has been there for about 15,000
year.

18.  The Bear Cave from Chişcău, Bihor County, was discovered
by accident in 1975. As a result of local mine exploration,
the opening to the underground level was created by
blowing up the entrance.The minerTraian Curta was the
one who climbed into this cave first, he went through the
gallery to the great hall of the cave.This was followed by
new explorations of the cave by the group of speleology
amateurs Speodava from Ştei, then by specialists from the
Emil Racoviţă Institute of Speleology, in collaboration with
the representatives of the Ţării Crişurilor Museum from
Oradea. In 1980, after five years of exploration and
establishment, the bear den was opened for visits.The Bear

22. Sighistel Valley
 SighișteluluiValley is a wild and spectacular
valley due to the karst landscape, which is
represented by numerous caves and wild
gorges with narow and high valle

23.  SighișteluluiValley offers to the tourist, wild
landscapes, rich vegetation, small waterfalls,
caves, wild gorges and a diverse range of
flora and fauna specific to the Apuseni.

25. Codru –Moma Mountains
 The Codru-Moma Mountains (Munţii Codru-
Moma) are a part of the Criş Mountains
(Munţii Crişului)
The mountains are distinguished by landforms,
remarkable landscapes, by their beauty and
spectacularity: steep slopes of hundreds of
meters, huge deciduous forests.

28. Bihor Peak
 Bihor Peak is the higest mountain in the
western Carpathians.Its altitude is 1849 m
