Speaking effectively is defined as speaking in such a way that your message is clearly heard and, if
possible, acted upon. There are two main elements to speaking effectively: what you say, and how you
say it. What you say means your choice of words. For verbal communication to be effective, it should be
clear, relevant, tactful in forming phrases and tone, concise, and informative. Presentations or
conversations that have these factors included usually bear good fruits
Public speaking, also called oratory or oration, has traditionally meant the act of speaking face to face to
a live audience. Today it includes any form of speaking to an audience, including pre-recorded speech
delivered over great distance by means of technology.
Effective public speaking skills can help with career advancement, as they indicate creativity, critical
thinking skills, leadership abilities, poise, and professionalism, qualities which are very valuable for the
job market. Speaking at events and conferences is a good way of building credibility
The role of effective speaking in theatre communication
Without the ability to fully utilize their voice, no actor can be counted on to express themselves in the
dynamic, creative way our industry demands. Indeed, the purpose of vocal training, a standard element
of all conservatory acting programs throughout the world, is to free the actor's habitual patterns of
tension
Theatre is a dramatic art of communication. Communication means, "the imparting or exchanging of
information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium”( Oxford Dictionaries ) . Theatre is
mankind's natural instinct. We gather the experience from our world .
Effective public speaking skills can help with career advancement, as they indicate creativity, critical
thinking skills, leadership abilities, poise, and professionalism, qualities which are very valuable for the
job market. Speaking at events and conferences is a good way of building credibility. It allows us to form
connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Without communication skills, the ability to
progress in the working world and in life, itself, would be nearly impossible. Public speaking is one of the
most important and most dreaded forms of communication.. Confident public speaking is not about
putting on an act, but there are many acting techniques that can help you stretch into the full and
fearless parts of your inner inspiring speaker. The key to any great performance parts about Sharing you
and this is where effective speaking comes in( just a fuller version of you unleashed on the stage).
Communication is vital to a successful theatrical experience. A play is a two way street – what is sent
from the stage gets an immediate response from the audience. There is an exchange that doesn't
happen in the movie-going experience or the reading experience.
Communication might be the most important 21st century skill students can learn in the drama
classroom. We communicate with each other in the real world every day, in a variety of ways: verbal,
nonverbal, physical. Effective speaking is not only about being able to speak well; it also involves
listening carefully, observing body language and facial expressions of others around you (and yourself),
taking time for reflection before responding or sharing information with others, thinking about what you
want others to know about themselves or their lives as well as having an understanding of how others
might feel when hearing certain things from them
In the theatre, how you speak is as important as what you are saying. Your character’s personality will
be revealed through their speech, which can add depth to your story and aid audience understanding of
plot and subplots. Audiences quickly become engrossed in a play where each character has a clear and
distinct voice, style and manner of speaking. Effective speaking is essential when reading aloud or
performing in theatre. There are many different ways in which effective speaking can be
achieved:Effective speech is essential when reading aloud or performing in theatre. It makes the
audiences become engrossed in a play where each character has a clear and distinct voice, style and
manner of speaking For example when you read lines aloud, your audience will be able to hear and
differentiate each character’s voice as well as movements on the stage which gives more in-depth to
their personalities. In the theatre, how you speak is as important as what you are saying.
Speech adds more depth to a story and aids understanding of subplots by the audience . For example:
When a character addresses another character directly: "Hello," or "Wait up." This helps us know that
they're talking about something other than themselves (like a conversation). It also gives us an idea of
their relationship with each other based on how they address each other.
