Good morning everybody – I’m happy to be here and share with you this case study….
Key Message: We do understand the challenge and have what it takes to take it onBeing a service provider to your industry for many year, we do understand the challenges you are facing in your supply chain - especially when it comes to emerging countries where infrastructure, climate and legislation are often adding more complexity and challenges as in other western marketsWhen trying to find solutions to those challenges we all should always consider that there is a patient at the end of your supply chain waiting for cure….
Key Message: Request for freight consolidation across the CMO base – Additional emerging market challengesWhy freight consolidation? - cost savings through consolidationDiversified Contract Manufacturer base spread out through the entire country (+350 sites endorsed by EU for GMP in India)Different shipping volumes (LCL) – No more air shipped aroundlarge tax payer units & small tax payer unitsAvoid Airfreight – Why? – Not only for cost savings – Cold Chain integrity – Less risk exposureIncreased quality focus to verifyproducts storage and distribution into the EU market at 15 – 25 ° CRequirement for a GDP compliant end-to-end solution. What does GDP mean for us? Ensure that medicinal products integrity is ensured throughout the supply chainBut not only GDP compliant as to the EU requirement….obviously compliant to local legislation….just throwing out there terms like small and large tax payer units …. Please keep them in mind.
Key Message: What are the main challenges, what is their impact?Who of you has been in India? I have had the opportunity to be there a couple of times and that was needed to understand this market placeLet me share some facts :Indian Pharmaceutical Industry (IPI) is globally the 3rd largest in terms of volumeThe Exports market being $13 billion in 2012 and expected to grow annually by 15% up to 2017While India’s pharmaceutical industry keeps on showing robust growth the nation’s infrastructure challenges can be a major pain….Distances of +1000 km with a maximum highway speed for trucks of 30-40 km/h – That’s like Basel to Barcelona ( not for a soccer match)With that speed trips like this become easily 30 hours+Reefer equipment heavily utilized for fruit exports (NhavaSheeva Container yard – cleaning procedure – poor fellow - steam jet cleaner – not more pressure then my garden hose at home)Climate: Average temperature in India is 38° - ( I have been a couple of times in India only caught a cold once -Train ride from Delhi to Ahmadabad??)You have to understand those challenges and need to consider them when creating the solution.
Key Message: Understand the challenge – Have the right attitude, approach and commitmentSo what is needed for a freight consolidation concept like: A pharma compliant consolidation facility - Of course – a de-consolidation facility, but that was easierHow did we find it in India then? From Non bonded facility – large & small tax payer unit not possibleTo the Mumbai Free Trade Zone – not accepted in the market placeTo CFS facility (port terminal provider) – no cold room availableDismantling of existing cold room facility in Hyderabad - assembling in MumbaiBelieve me, that was quite a journey and needed a lot of patience from all involved….As we finally had found the right facility we went through a full qualification process…Customs notification - FDA audit and approval - GDP audit and approvalSo what was the winning formula?Dedicated teams of experts at both ends (PCC India & Europe) - strong collaboration between those teams – Seeing is believing ( go to those market to understand them)
Key Message: The solutionfulfills all requirements – WehavewhatittakestoovercomethosechallengesComingtothe end ofourjourneyI’dliketosummarîzewhatwearelookingnow….GDP certified end to end solutionCosteffectivesolution, LCL pricingstructure. Youpayforwhatyouruse.integratedcoldchainmanagement end to endComparabletoairfreighttransitforregularmovementofcargo. Custombondedsolution (small & large taxpayerconsolidation)So as you can see we were looking at serious challenges – but have been able to overcome them….with the right attitude, the right approach and commitment
