Wajih Aslam and Rasmus Runberg gave a presentation on servant leadership for traditional managers. They discussed key aspects of servant leadership like calling, awareness, listening, empathy, healing, persuasion, foresight, growth, and community. They also covered the importance of psychological safety and shared a link to Google's Project Aristotle research on team dynamics. The presentation included examples like a magic trick, management chess game, and ball game. It concluded with promoting the AgileME-Dubai Meetup group and a link to AgileInDubai.com.

9. Psychological Safety
Psychological safety is being able to show and
employ one's self without fear of negative
consequences of self-image, status or career
Kahn 1990, p. 708
12. Change
Modern Agile workshop by Joshua Kerievsky
1. Pair up with another attendee - ideally one
you haven’t spoken with already
2. Face to face quickly introduce yourself (10
seconds)
3. Turn around so you stand back to back
4. Change 3 things about your appearance (30
seconds)
5. Turn around so you are face to face again. See
if you can identify the things that were
changed
Good Afternoon ! Good Afternoon …. I could not hear that Good Afternoon

Thanks to all the event sponsors. Specially in current situation where we all have to adjust our self to make sure event is successful
Magic Trick:
I identified a goal - a vision. Some of you identified a solution and delivered because you believed in that goal.
Others decided not to help due to no need - you self organized
Lessons of the game:
– Leadership functions by announcing your intention and following through
– It is a plain, natural behavior, which requires participation of all actors in the group and good cross-communication.
And here is what is the magic: anybody can be a leader (and a follower)!
Who is a leader ? Everyone in situations
We are as parents leader of home, as boss at office, captain in sports or anywhere else
Let’s share the name of the leader you most admire. Why so?
John C. Maxwell is one of today's top leadership thinkers. ... Let’s see what he says about the leadership
1 Managers - 1 Team Members
You can move back and forwards and to each side, but not diagonal
You cannot move to an already occupied or blocked square
You can only move according to instruction from your manager
Each move is a point - the manager will keep score
You have 1 minute
2nd Iteration, Managers only count and not giving directions
Why we score higher in second round?
What do we know about servant leadership
Serving the team
Managing products - not people
Remove Impediments
Trust people to do what they do best
Calling – it is your inner instincts – desire to sacrifice self interest for the benefit of followers
Listening – Need to be Active listener – give value to followers suggestion and queries
Empathy – walking into the shoes of another one
Healing – Helping followers getting back from difficult situation
Awareness - in terms of bigger picture
Only carry 1 ball at the time
1 point for each ball in bucket
-5 point for each ball that miss
1 Minute to score as many points as possible
2nd Iteration no negative points
3rd Iteration 2 balls outside = 1 points
William Kahn theory of employee engagement
“No fear of being our self”. Your self-image, status and career are on stake
What is psychological safety? People have fear of being judged.
Employee feel safe to work
Customer feel safe to use your product.
Careem success over User in this region because they provide safety.
Slack return credits if someone is not active for 14 days
CI – CD – TDD [Enjoy the weekend]
Chaos Monkey
Our first retrospective ever.
What I do as Scrum Master? – How many time we have a question to ask and we feel it’s very silly and we don’t ask? But someone else ask same question and they get the answer.
Sometimes I ask silly questions to make sure that my team members feel safe when we provide them the right environment.
180 teams interviewed over a period of 2 years (starting 2012)
No patterns to be found !? - No correlation between successful and non-successful teams !?
No clear insights from looking into personal friendships, strong management, team structure, personal interests, gender etc. ??!!??
Group norms were found to be key to success in a team
It’s not about you - It’s all about the team
It’s all about you - You need be the change
Change isn’t something being taken away from you
Servant leadership is an added skillset for you
