IP: Internet Protocol
MAC: Media Access Control address
NIC: Network Interface Controller/ Card
Protocol:
A protocol is a standard set of rules that allow electronic devices to communicate
with each other. These rules include what type of data may be transmitted what
commands are used to send and receive data and how data transfers are confirmed.
Network Address:
A network address is an identifier for a node or host on a
telecommunications network. Network addresses are designed to be unique
identifiers across the network, although some networks allow for local,
private addresses, or locally administered addresses that may not be unique.
Addressing are two type:
1. Physical & 2.Logical
IP version type:
1. ipv4
2. ipv6
IPV4 are two type:
1. Public
2. Private
Public IP Address:
A public IP address is an IPv4 address that is reachable from the internet. If a
resource in your tenancy needs to be directly reachable from the internet, it must
have a public IP address.
Private IP Address:
Private (internal) addresses are not routed on the Internet and no traffic can be sent
to them from the Internet, they only supposed to work within the local network.
Classification of IP Addressing:
1. class a: Rang [1.000-126]
2. class b: Rang[128-191]
3. class c: Rang[192-223]
4. class d: Rang[224-239]
5. class e: Rang [240-255]
Range of special IP Addresses:
1. (169.254.0.0-169.254.0.16)
=>Link Local Address
2. (127.0.0.0-127.0.0.8)
=>Loop Back Address
3. (0.0.0.0-0.0.0.8)
=>Used to communicate within the current network
MAC Addresses:
MAC address is a unique identifier that is assigned to a NIC (Network Interface
Controller/ Card). It consists of a 48 bit or 64-bit address, which is associated with
the network adapter. MAC address can be in hexadecimal format. The full form
of MAC address is Media Access Control address
Host:
A network host is a computer or other device connected to a computer network. A
host may work as a server offering information resources, services, and
applications to users or other hosts on the network. Hosts are assigned at least one
network address
