5. WHAT ARE ROBOTS ?
A robot is a
reprogrammable,
multifunctional
manipulator
designed to move
materials, parts,
tools, or specialized
devices, through
variable programmed
motions for the
performance of a
variety of tasks.
6. HISTORY OF ROBOTS
In around 1495,Leonardo Da Vinci Sketched Plans For
Humanoid Robots
From1700-1900 a no. of life sized Automons were
Created.
In1913 Mr. Henry Ford installs worlds first moving
conveyor belt in his company.
In 1920 Karel Capek discovers the word Robot to
describe machines that resembles Humans.
In 1932, the first Toy Robot was produced in Japan.
8. 1. INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS
Industrial Robots
are Automatically
Controlled,
reprogrammable,mu
ltiprogrammable
machines that are
used for
Manufacturing.
They are mainly
used for Welding,
Painting, Ironing,
Assembly,
Inspection, etc.
9. 2.DOMESTIC ROBOTS
Robots that are
used at home are
called as Domestic
or Household
Robots.
This type of robots
includes many
different devices
such as Robotic
Vacuum Cleaners,
Washing
machines,etc.
10. 3.COMPETITION ROBOTS
Competition Robots
are the robots that
they have to defeat
other Robots in order
to become the best
Robot.
They are of 4 types:
1.Line Follower
Robots.
2.Pick & Place
Robots.
3.Roborace
4.Robowars.
13. 4.SERVICE ROBOTS
Service Robots
assists Human
Beings, typically by
performing a job that
is dirty, dull, distant,
dangerous,
repetitive works.
They are typically
autonomous
14. 5.MEDICAL ROBOTS
Robots that are used
for various treatment
or surgeries in
hospitals are called
Medical Robots.
There are four types
1.Surgical Robots
2.Rehabilitation
Robots
3.Pharmacy
Automation
17. 6.MILITARY ROBOTS
Robots that are use
in Military for Bomb
Disposal,
Transportation,
Reconnaissance
Drones, Rescue,
attacking, etc.
18. 7.HUMANOID ROBOTS
A Humanoid Robot is
a robot with its body
shape built to
resemble Human
Body.
A humanoid design
might be for functional
purposes, such as
interacting with
human tools and
environments.
Most of the Robots
that are used in our
daily life are
Humanoid Robots.
19. REASONS FOR USING
ROBOTS
They can work 24*7.
They do not need
any Human to see
after them.
They work in 4D
Environments such
as
Dangerous, Dirty,
Dull, Difficult .
They work with high
Precision.
They work with high
Speed.
They can Perform
Repetitive and
Boring Tasks easily.
20. ADVANTAGES OF ROBOTS
It gives us information
that Humans can’t get.
Working at places 24*7
without any food an
salary.
They can perform tasks
faster than Humans.
They are more precise
and accurate than
Humans.
Some Robots do not
require Human
Interference.
22. WHAT IS AUTOMATION ?
Automation is
nothing but the use
of various control
systems for
Operating
equipments such as
machinery,
processes in
factories, boilers,
with reduced Human
Interference.
23. 1.FIXED AUTOMATION
(HARD)
Fixed automation refers
to the use of special
purpose equipment to
automate a fixed
sequence of
processing.
Each of the operation in
the sequence is usually
simple, involving
perhaps a plain linear
or rotational motion.
It is relatively difficult to
accommodate changes
in the product design.
This is called hard
automation.
24. 2.PROGRAMMABLE
AUTOMATION
In programmable
automation, the
production equipment is
designed with the
capability to change the
sequence of operations
to accommodate
different product
configurations.
The operation
sequence is controlled
by a program, which is
a set of instructions
coded. So that they can
be read and interpreted
by the system.
25. 3.FLEXIBLE AUTOMATION
Flexible automation is
an extension of
programmable
automation.
A flexible automation
system is capable of
producing a variety of
parts with virtually no
time lost for
changeovers from one
part style to the next.
There is no lost
production time while
reprogramming the
system .
26. REASON FOR AUTOMATION
To increase labor
productivity
To reduce labor cost
To improve worker
safety
To reduce
manufacturing lead
time
More precise and
accurate works
Work is done 24*7.
27. ADVANTAGES OF
AUTOMATION
Improved product
quality.
Maximize capital
intensive equipment
in multiple work shifts.
Accident reduction
Reduction of
hazardous exposure
for human workers
Greater response
time to inputs than
humans.
28. APPLICATIONS OF
AUTOMATION
Painting, Welding,
Surface Finishing
Aerospace and
automotive
industries
Light assembly such
as in the micro-
electronics
industries, or
consumer products
industries.
