⢠The climate in Manali is very pleasant all through the year except
during the winter when night temperatures may drop below zero
degree Celsius. Springtime, beginning in March and lasting through
April, brings to the valley blossoms, flowers and butterflies â

⢠The summer temperatures range between 12° C and 25° C, while
the winter temperatures usually remain between 2° C and 15° C.
⢠Close to the snowfields of the Solang Nala and the Rohtang pass,
Manali is decidedly cooler than Kullu. During winter there is heavy
snowfall, sometimes throwing transportation out of gear. During
monsoons Manali gets heavy rainfall, and it is advisable to always

Kms). Alternative railheads are Shimla (270 Kms) and

Nehru Kund

from the spring when he used
to stay in Manali.
8. Brighu Lake
Situated at a height of 4270 m the lake lies below
the Brighu peak. The lake is a favorite trekking trail
for tourists. It is approachable from village Vashisht
and Gulaba. Considered both sacred and a
sightseeing delight, it is said that Rishi Bhrigu wrote
the Bhrigu Samhita here and also used to meditate
near the lake. Nehru Kund, a natural spring originates
from this pristine lake, while trekking routes go
through this area. On its bank Rishi
Bhrigu practiced penance. So this place has religious
importance too. The path to the lake starts
from Vashishtha village near the hot water sprigs.
The distance from here is 6 km. and all the way there
is steep climb.
9. Kothi,Manali, India
3 Km from Manali, enroute to Rohtang pass,
is this scenic village below which
the river Beas flows through a deep gorge.
The PWD rest house located here is ideal for a
picnic. The Rahalla Fall at an altitude of 2500
m, 27 Km from Manali, offers an awe
inspiring spectacle. Kothi is a beautiful and
quiet spot. It commands a thrilling view. This
place is famous for movie picturisation and
resting resort for poets, writers and lovers of
peaceful environments.
10. Rohtang Pass
This wonderland does not end at Rohtang. It is infact, the
gateway to the Lahaul and SpitiValleys that offer some
awe inspiring mountain - scapes and numerous Buddhist
Monasteries. If you have time, take a trip to Keylong the
district headquarters or at least to Sisu, 35 Km
fromRohtang. Sisu is a tourist centre with a lake and a
spectacular waterfall surrounded by towering peaks.
Beyond this, one can travel on the Manali-Leh road, the
second highest mountain road in the world which takes
you enoughSurajtal to Sarchu tourist camps and on to Leh,
Ladakh. The Road remains open from early June to mid
December. For those with leisure, a trip to Spiti via
theKunzum Pass would provide some breathtaking views
on its moon-like landscape, including that of Barashigri,
the Longest glacier in Asia.
11. Naggar in Kullu-Manali
⢠Naggar, a lovely village set on a hill surrounded by forests,
was the capital of kullu in the 16th century
and the monuments in the region are witness to its
glorious past. The Naggar Castle, a stone and wood
structure built by Raja Sidh Singh over 500 years ago, has
been converted into a heritage hotel. The gracefully built
castle has a temple of the area, such as the grey
sandstone Gauri Shankar templeof Shiva that likes close to
the castle, the Chatar Bhuj temple, Tripura Sundri Devi
temple, the Jagti Patt temple, with its triangular slab of
stone, strewn with rose petals and rupee notes and
the Murlidhar temple, are worth a visit, he paintings and
photographs of the late Nicholas Roerich are Exhibited in
the Nicholas Roerich Gallery.
12. Tibetan Monasteries
⢠The Gadhan The kchokling Gompa built in 1969
and the monasteries at Chadhyari and Aleo are
worth visiting while at Manali.
⢠There are 3 newly constructed colorful
Monasteries in Manali. The Tibetans living around
these monasteries in Manali offer a wide range
of Tibetan handicrafts andcarpets. Two of these
monasteries are located in the main downtown
of Manali and the third monastery is in Aleo. Aleo
is located in Manali on the Left Bank of River
Beas.
13. Vashist Manali
⢠Across the Beas river about 3.2 Km away fromManali
bus stand at an altitude of
⢠1,982 meters just above the Manali-Keylong roadand
down below the temple are the hot sulphur spring,
named as Vashisht, endowed with great healing
powers. Vashisht is bestowed with natural springs and
fabulous sand stone temples. Nearby is the pyramidal
stone temple dedicated to Vashishta Muni. Turkish
style shower fitted bathrooms, separate for ladies and
gents have been built closeby where the hot and cold
water is separately piped, maintaining the regular
temperature for bathing, charges are nominal.
14. Arjun Gufa
⢠4 km away from Manali towards Naggar is the Cave of
Arjuna, Pandav Arjun mediated here. This is good 1/2
a day excursion with charManali in the Indian
Himalayas is a jewel on the forehead of India and this
hill queen has a number of interesting sites and
the Arjuna Gufa is one of them. Located on the left
bank of the river Beas, the Arjuna Gufa or the Cave of
Arjuna is 4-5 Kilometers away from the town
of Manali. The nearest village to the Arjuna Gufa is
the village of Prini and its is a perfect hilly village with
all its charmming view of the brilliant mountains.

16. Jagat-sukh, Kullu
⢠Jagatsukh, the erstwhile capital of Kullu, is one of
the biggest villages in Kullu District in Himachal.
This beautiful hamlet is dotted with numerous
old temples. Jagatsukh is 6 km south of Manali.
Major point of attraction is an ancient Shiva
Temple, built in Shikhara style. Other tourist
interests include the small shrine of
Gaurishankar and the chalet-roofed
temple dedicated to Goddess Sandhya
Devi. Sharvali Devi Temple, in the nearby village
Shooru, is worth visiting.
17. Rahalla Falls
⢠Rahalla Falls, The beautiful water fall, at
height of 8,500 ft. About 16 km
from Manali at the start of the climb to
the Rohtang Pass, at an altitude of 2,501 m.
⢠16 kms. on way to Rohtang pass. If one goes
to Marhi on foot from Kothi from the old
road, the sight of the falls is fascinating.
