One of the perks of living in Adelaide is
festive season, and I’m not talking about the
generic two weeks of Christmas, New Year’s
Eve and my birthday (yes, it is a national
public holiday). Whilst the rest of Australia
has fond memories of that time, it is only
training for us Adelaideans as we prepare for
the onslaught that is February and March.
With so much happening at this time, the last
thing you want to think about is your outfit.
The only issue you will face is transitioning
your look from work to play. Firstly, chinos
are your friends. In fact, buy your chinos a
friendship necklace and tell them how much
you care about them. Blue, taupe, black,
salmon, khaki – they can all be worn with a
shirt, tie and jacket during the day and then
with just the shirt at night. Take off the tie, roll
style me!
Put your curves in focus with
a cute corset. We ask these
stylish gals how they’d wear it.
For work, pair with a classic
white shirt. Wear the bodice on top
of the shirt to create a cool work
look! Wear with The Horse watch in
Matte Black. For play, it’s perfect to
wear to a Friday night gig with the
Highway Jean in Black Pearl by Lee
Jeans. Wear with Umika Heel by
Wittner in Black Suede.

For day into night, I’d wear it with a
pulled-back straight ponytail, black drape
harem pants (mid-calf) and simply change the
shoes from flat sandals to a strappy black heel
for the evening with a bit of gold jewellery to
emphasis the quirky pattern. The old-school
look of a shirt or tee underneath the bodice
could also be played with!

Corsets are often attached
to a girly and feminine
aesthetic, but making yours
work in an edgy way is
simple. Layer the corset over
a loose-fitted t-shirt and pair
with a distressed denim jean
for a trendsetting day look.
Transition to a night look by
slipping off the t-shirt and
popping on a pair of heels.

For daywear, I’d make this printed
corset the feature piece and build
my outfit around it – so tight black
jeans, nude ballet flats, a black
blazer and a big white slouchy bag.
For night, I’d swap the thongs with
black pointy pumps, the jeans with a
black pencil skirt over the corset so
it turns into a midriff top and cap it
off with a black blazer..

up the sleeves, and unbutton a couple of
top buttons… DONE!
Secondly, patterned shirts will save your
life. Gingham, floral, stripes, checked,
houndstooth, these all look amazing during
the day with a contrasting tie and will get you
many compliments during the night as you sit
back sipping your cider and having a few lols
at the comedy show you have just seen.
Finally, don’t be afraid of the tee and jacket
combination. If you have a job that allows
some creativity in your work fashion, mix and
match your jacket/pant combo and take a
(freshly ironed) scoop or V-neck tee to work
with you. Change your shirt and tie with the
tee and you are ready to go.
If all else fails and you have a last-minute
festival date, just pull out the age-old
classic… ‘Sorry, I didn’t get a chance to
go home and change, I’m still in my work
clothes’. Instagram: @muse _ me
