• Mediale is a media/arts festival that brings
work and commissions from leading artists
worldwide to York.
• The festival provides a platform for new
artists to show off their work and the art is
often a variety of different media including
digital art, music, dance , and art installations.
• The festival seems to be a way to inspire
young artists in York and to develop how
people experience art.

8. Mental health statistics in England for the young
• If one out of eight 5 to 19 year old's are
experiencing a mental health disorder then it
shows that mental health disorders are more
common than I expected. This is useful
information to me as I can talk about this in my
project to further explain how many people are
living with mental disorders.
• I think that I would make my project based around
emotional disorders as it’s the most prevalent
mental disorder experienced by young people.
• The number of young people experiencing issues
has increased over time so I will do some primary
research into why my target audience of 16-25
year old's think this is

9. Primary research: survey
I decided to ask the age of the
participant in the first question of my
survey but I had only sent the survey
to people from my class and other
classes which limited the age range of
the results I got.
The results I did get were all from the
same age range however this is also
the age range of my target audience
from my clients brief so the results
from my survey will give me a clearer
understanding of how my target
audience feel about my intial ideas so
that I can develop it while planning.
I think that I’d have a better
understanding of how people think
about my intial ideas in general if I had
sent my survey to a larger group of
people of varying ages using social
media, this would’ve meant that I’d get
10. Primary research: survey
I used this question to see how well
received my initial idea for my project
would be and it turned out fairly well as
only three people out of the 15 that
responded said that they wouldn’t watch
a video about mental health in young
adults
I think my survey could have been more
effective if I had asked a follow up
question to those who did’nt like my
idea as to why they felt that way so I
could have a stronger base to plan my
project off.
80% of the responses did like my idea
so I will still be working on this particular
idea but staying aware that there a
certain ways that I should create my
project to make it more interesting to my
target audience.
11. Primary research: survey
I asked this question to see how I
should stylise my video through editing
as videos on social media are usually
just under a minute and are used to
very briefly educate the viewer where
as there’s a lot more freedom in the
time I can use in a youtube video.
I’m glad most of my audience would
choose to watch the videos on
youtube as it would allow me to make
a lot more creative choices in the way
I edit my video which would fit my
clients brief of an artistic expression of
my vision of York.
12. Primary research: survey
I made this question to see what
percentage of people in my target
audience had known someone with
mental health issues and the results
were a lot higher than I expected as
only one person had not met anyone
with a mental health disorder which
shows that mental health issues are
fairly common things that people can
experience.
If more people had’nt known someone
with mental health I think I would’ve
aimed my video to inform my audience
about mental health issues however
because a large percentage of my
audience is already aquainted with
mental health disorders I’m sticking
with the idea to use my video to tell
peoples stories of facing mental health
issues.
13. Primary research: survey
The answers to this question were
a lot different to what I they would
be as more people had personally
experienced a mental health issue
than people that had’nt. This is
interessting for me as it could
suggest that a a fairly high amount
of students in my year feel as if
they are experiencing these
issues or have done so in the
past.
This information gives me the idea
for my video to maybe record
people talking about if they are
experiencing mental health issues
and what they think is the cause
of it.
14. Primary research: survey
• The results from this question were interesting as the
was a wide variety of responses that included peoples
opinions on the education system to living in abusive
environments.
• The variety of respones suggests that theres a lot that I
could cover in my project as the responses cover so
many factors of mental health disorders that I think if I
made several short videos covering different aspects of
emotional mental health disorders so that I can cover a
larger amount of issues.
• Lifestyle choices are the actual cause of most mental
health disorders in the UK and the drastically varying
responses to this question imply that not many people
in my target audience are aware of this so I could raise
awareness about this in my short film.
15. Primary research: survey
I asked this question last to see if my
target audience would find my base idea
to be helpful in it’s purpose to educate
people in how to notice if someone is
struggling with mental health disorders
and how people could help comfort
them.
Most people responded positively to my
idea and although one person disagreed
I think the topic of mental health is
definetly what I want to explore in my
project but now I’ll need to find a creative
and interesting way to plan it so that my
video can match the brief set by the
client.
